For this season, only the pilot episode was completed before production was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic;[3] this was resumed by Fox in August 2020 without spectators under implemented health and safety protocols, becoming one of the network's first non-scripted series to do so.[4][5]
Gameplay
Format
Under the original format, the contestant can eliminate mystery singers after each round, and ended with the last remaining mystery singer depending on the outcome of a duet performance by guest artist.[6]
The contestant must eliminate one mystery singer at the end of each round, receiving $10,000 if they eliminate a bad singer. At the end of the game, the contestant may either end the game and keep the money they had won in previous rounds, or risk it for a chance to win $100,000 by correctly guessing whether the last remaining mystery singer is good or bad.
Rounds
Each episode presents the guest artist and contestant with six people whose identities and singing voices are kept concealed until they are eliminated to perform on the "stage of truth" or remain in the end to perform the final duet.
- Lip Sync Challenge
Divided into two groups of three mystery singers, each of them have to perform a lip sync of their own. At the conclusion of performances, the contestant eliminates one mystery singer from each group. - Unlock my Life
The guest artist and contestant are presented with a video package containing possible clues by one of the mystery singers of their choice. - Secret Studio
The guest artist and contestant are presented with video from a recording session by one of the mystery singers, but pitch-shifted to obscure their actual vocals. - Interrogation
The guest artist and contestant may ask questions to the remaining mystery singers. Good singers are required to give truthful responses, while the bad singers must lie.
