The network's previous attempts at successful news broadcasts, ''[[The Walter Compton News]]'' (1947-1948) and ''[[I.N.S. Telenews]]''/''[[Camera Headlines]]'' (1948-1949), had proved unpopular. The 15-minute news program aired from 7:15-7:30 PM (Eastern Standard Time) immediately following DuMont's popular ''[[Captain Video]]'' show. When DuMont was forced to cancel most of their remaining programs in April 1955 because of financial problems, the ''DuMont Evening News'' was among the series axed.
