Copy editing the text in the "Subject" column

Hi, I'm starting this discussion because there have been some recent edits to the formatting of the text in the "Subject" column (e.g. date formats). My thought on this is that since the entries in the Subject column are exact quotations from the formal judgments of the Judicial Committee, they should not be edited. I'd previously put a note to that effect in the edit box, and I've now added to the "Subject" box that the text is taken directly from the judgments. However, I think it would be useful to have a discussion on this issue, if anyone would like to participate. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 11:08, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Dear @Mr Serjeant Buzfuz:, I agree with you, and I can happily revert my edit. Also, theres a special code template which can be placed on those words, so that they dont appear as typos for the program AWB and others. Dan Koehl (talk) 11:21, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

yes, you find that template at Template:Not_a_typo, its handy in order to protect phrases, which you dont want to be changed by any typo editor. Dan Koehl (talk) 11:36, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

I changed some dates as it looked like an error, perhaps they it should use one of the quote templates to make it clear that it is a quote and not general text. MilborneOne (talk) 17:31, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

The subject text should be marked as a quote or something similar if it is taken directly from the source. This would clarify it and probably prevent copy edits. -Fnlayson (talk) 17:32, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments, all. I'm steadily working through the various lists of JCPC cases, inserting the "not a typo" template for the dates. I don't think I can use quotation marks for each of the entries, because sometimes the text itself uses quotation marks, which then would then create a different type of confusion.
