Academy Awards ke-53, yang memberikan penghargaan kepada film-film pada 1980, diadakan pada 31 Maret 1981, di Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Los Angeles. Acara tersebut, yang dipimpin oleh Johnny Carson, aslinya dijadwalkan sehari sebelumnya namun dimajukan karena upaya pembunuhan terhadap Presiden Ronald Reagan.
