History

The location in the Rocky Mountains was formerly a working ranch in the late 19th century.[1] Anderson Ranch became an artists’ community in 1966 when it was founded by Paul Soldner.[10][2][11][12] Other early artists involved were Daniel Rhodes, Jim Romberg, Toshiko Takahaezu, James Surls, Takashi Nakazato and Charmaine Locke.[13][14] The center became a nonprofit in 1973 and started offering an artist residency program in 1985.[11]
