Dr. Alex Ampaabeng is the current Deputy Finance Minister in Ghana. He is also the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Juaboso constituency in the Western North Region of Ghana.[1] [2][3][4]
Education
Alex has an MSc in Accounting & Finance from De Montfort University, an MBA in Financial Management from City Business College, TIU, a PGCE in Business from the University of Huddersfield, and a PhD in Accounting & Finance from the University of Birmingham, with a focus on Taxation in Developing and Emerging Economies.[5][6]
Career
Alex has 17 years of experience in accounting, finance, fiscal policy and economics. Prior to teaching economics, accounting and finance modules at universities in the U.K., such as Birmingham City University, the University of Coventry, the University of Warwick and the University of Birmingham, he worked as a finance officer at NHS England.[7]
Alex started the Ghana Tax Dialogue, a weekly radio and national TV programme, in 2018.
Alex worked for Oxfam as a fiscal policy specialist in Ghana. As part of his work, Alex worked closely with the Ministry of Finance to provide tax and fiscal policy recommendations for the yearly national budget of Ghana.[7]
In addition, Alex contributed to Oxfam's efforts in the extractive sector by doing research and analysis, yearly energy budget submissions, and educating legislators on energy-related matters.
