Reconquest of Kangra was the conflict in 1051 between the armies of Ghaznavid dynasty led by Nushtigin Hajib and Tomar dynasty and in this conflict Ghaznavid recaptured kangra from Rajputs of Tomar dynasty.[1] The Kangra city situated in present day Himachal Pradesh.
Background
Before this conflict, Mahmud Ghazni attacked and plundered the kangra region and its fort,[2] During the sultanate of Masʽud I of Ghazni, Masʽud I of Ghazni captured hansi from tomar dynasty and other nearby areas,[3] But these regions were recaptured by Rajputs in around 1043 AD, But were beaten back when besieged Lahore.[4]
The conflict
Abd-ur-Rashld appointed Nushtigin as a governor of Punjab who was active and able officer.[5]
During the reign of the Tomar dynasty, Kangra was captured by them and held under their control. However, Nushitgin, a powerful governor of the Ghaznavid dynasty, sought to reclaim the territory and assert his dominance over the region.[6]
After the successful recapture of Kangra, Nushitgin solidified his power in the region and established his authority over the town.[7][8] The victory not only boosted Nushitgin's reputation as a strong ruler but also helped in expanding the territory controlled by the Ghaznavid dynasty.
