Nikolsky District (Russian: Нико́льский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[6] district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 2,511.9 square kilometers (969.9 sq mi).[2] Its administrative center is the town of Nikolsk.[1] Population: 34,271 (2010 Census);[3] 39,175 (2002 Census);[8] 46,619 (1989 Soviet census).[9] The population of Nikolsk accounts for 65.6% of the district's total population.[3]
