History

Park Lane station opened on January 10, 1997 as the northern terminus of the Red Line.[2] The station was originally constructed as a ground-level platform located on the southern side of Park Lane. This location was chosen because it did not require the track to cross Park Lane, which would have required grade separation to prevent traffic congestion on the road.[5]

Construction on the Red Line's second northern extension, including a bridge over Park Lane, began in April 1999.[6] To allow for a smooth transition to the bridge, the Park Lane station needed a new location. Instead of building on the site of the original station, DART opted to build its successor on the northern side of the road, and it opened to passenger service on June 17, 2002, two weeks before the extension to the Galatyn Park station opened, becoming the first elevated station on the DART light rail system.[3]

The original station remains closed, but, as of 2023, DART has retained it as a storage corridor.
