The Penang Airport station is a proposed light rail transit station located at Bayan Lepas in George Town, Penang. The station is projected to be part of the Mutiara line, serving the Penang International Airport.[1] Construction is expected to start in September or October 2024, and will be completed by 2030, in line with the completion of the Mutiara line.[2] The construction of the line is expected to provide a fast and direct transit between George Town's city centre towards the airport.[3][4]

History
The Penang International Airport is the primary airport serving Penang, and among the busiest airports in Malaysia.[5]
In 2015, the station was identified as the southern terminus of a 17.5 kilometres (10.9 mi) light rail transit line between the Penang International Airport and Komtar.[6][7] However, subsequent redesigns extended the line to 26–29 kilometres (16–18 mi) with the southern terminus ending at reclaimed land south of the airport.[8][9][10]
In 2019, for approval of the light rail transit line by the Land Public Transport Agency, the statutory body concerning public transport in Malaysia, the Penang state government was required to discuss with Malaysia Airports regarding the alignment and proximity of the station from the Penang International Airport.[11]
