Front Page

The Front Page and this article contradict them selfs."(the harshest in 25 years[1]) ""coldest winter for five decades."which is right —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrlego9 (talkcontribs) 20:07, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Its actually in between - mainly journalistic exaggeration. According to the statistics the last time winter was colder was 1969 - 39 years ago. I shall insert this in the article--AssegaiAli (talk) 21:32, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Put on news?

I think this article deserves a place in the news, not just DYK. Abnormally harsh winters have been causing havoc not just in Central Asia but China as well. I believe these are related and definitely deserves much more attention than it is currently receiving. Herunar (talk) 15:37, 14 February 2008 (UTC) Global Warming? i think not 140.198.129.172 (talk) 17:54, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Occational cold or hot weather has nothing to do with global warming. Of course they are related, all weather is related. Where I live, we've had the warmest January in over 200 years, thats probably also related. Besides, your beliefs have no place on wikipedia.81.235.136.245 (talk) 23:22, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Neither does yours, wiseass. Of course, you don't care whether you have had the warmest January in 200 years or not because you're a little punk living in a nicely air-conditioned room, no? Herunar (talk) 10:05, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Guys calm down! This is a talk page for improving the article, not for you to take shots at eachother! Skeletor 0 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.33.42.185 (talk) 18:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Recent winters have tended to be well above average so this winter is probably not an indicator of any cooling trends in weather.--AssegaiAli (talk) 21:32, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan ..bastards. Oh common you wanted to say it didn't you. --Leladax (talk) 19:55, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Dude thats just wrong. 142.33.42.185 (talk) 18:46, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Saxaul conservation status

Please clarify the statement about saxaul as a "rare plant at risk of extinction". It seems difficult to picture a rare plant as a major source of energy, and the linked article states that the plant is for example being used in widespread afforestation campaigns in China. The IUCN Red List didn't give me any results, common or rare, for saxaul or Haloxylon of any variety. Information on the Web suggests that saxaul is the basis of an important ecosystem and is being drastically reduced by human activity.[1] I suspect you actually mean to say that it's an important plant that, although common, is needed as an environment for other species, but perhaps there is some rare species or population at risk of extinction? Wnt (talk) 23:16, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

The source says

Saxaul, which grows in the Karakum Desert, has been listed as a rare plant at risk of extinction.

so thats what we have to say, it may be that its now limited to one small area. (Hypnosadist) 01:21, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Update

There is a statement: "The restriction was set to end February 10, but there is discussion of extending it." It is well past Feb 10, now. Is there an update on the restriction status? BobertWABC (talk) 15:33, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

I added a current event tag, but only because I did not know if there was an out-of-date tag. an update tag. This article is severely out of date and needs to be updated, rewritten, or deleted. If someone knows a more appropriate tag, please change the one I added. I am sorry that I am quite unfamiliar with this topic and am unqualified to make the changes to the article myself.
