Can anyone enlighten me on what the 'the march battalions of 82nd and 35th infantry regiments' are?

ThanksCooCan 15:11, Dec 4, 2004 (UTC)

A march battalion (Polish batalion marszowy, German Marschbefehl) is a battalion-sized force formed of all the rear units of an infantry regiment. It usually includes all the tabors, field kitchen staff, all the reserve soldiers, military police, commander's reserves, guards, aides, and all the people who can be pressed into first line service to fill in the gaps.
As far as I remember the name is derived from the fact that such battalions are usually left in the barracks after the regiment has left for the war and spend some time there to gather all the late-commers, volunteers and such, and then have to follow the main force of the regiment, usually by fast and forcible march.
This idea was used by several armies of the era, Polish, German and French included. Does it explain a tad? Halibutt 23:35, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

This article uses Polish spelling for geographical names in the English Wikipedia. Should I post a request to renaming this article on WP:RM? Dimawik (talk) 20:16, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
