Who wrote this song?

Who knows? Some sources credit a John Whitfield "Whit" Vaughan (1879-1945), whom I can find little about; others credit James D. Vaughan (1864-1941), who, given the latter's notoriety, would seem the more likely candidate. However one source even mentions that the former(John 'Whit') wrote the song for his mother Clara Beady Burgess-Vaughan - and where would that information come from if he wasn't the author? Both names are verifiable, technically (i.e. both names have been given as the author in citable publications), but which is 'true'?

One source even gives a "James W. Vaughan" as the author - certainly a hybrid of the two names. Brando130 (talk) 05:02, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
