Contested deletion

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because...He is a semi-noteworthy person and info seems credible--184.105.48.66 (talk) 20:14, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the above note. John Krafcik is a noteworthy person and is even supposed to be featured on Wikipedia for long having been a public figure. So to my understanding, this article is not supposed to be mark for deletion, rather, to be improved. Zubairu Dalhatu 21:19, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Proposing updates

Hi there! On behalf of Waymo, as part of my work at Beutler Ink, I'd like to request some updates throughout this article. As currently written, this article contains inaccuracies (the timing of his work as a lean production researcher and consultant), suffers from some less-than-ideal sourcing (e.g. Crunchbase), and contains portions of text in need of copy editing (e.g. the entire second paragraph under Career). The article lacks context surrounding Krafcik's work: for instance, Krafcik's studies formed the data behind the book, "The Machine That Changed the World" about "lean production", a term Krafcik coined; during Krafcik's tenure at Hyundai, the company saw record sales and increased U.S. market; at Waymo, Krafcik leads Waymo's efforts to commercialize the company's autonomous driving technology. My draft also removes some material that is simply outdated. For instance, Salary in the infobox is from 2014, before Krafcik held his current post. Also, the source used references a dead link.

You can see my full-article draft in my user space. I've also made this diff to show the changes I've made in the draft vs. the live article.

Since this article is short, I'm wondering if editors prefer to review my draft in full, or go section-by-section. If reviewing in chunks is preferred, I recommend starting with my proposed Early life and education section, which I've included below. This is an all-new section that I'm proposing be added to the article. I've drafted up a short summary that includes where he grew up and his degrees.

Proposed new draft for Early life and education
Early life and education
John Krafcik grew up in Southington, Connecticut.[1] Krafcik studied mechanical engineering at Stanford University, where he graduated in 1983.[1] He received his master's degree in management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1988, where he studied under James P. Womack, the coauthor of "The Machine That Changed the World".[1][2]

Is this section a reasonable addition to the article? Does anyone have any edits or feedback on this or the overall draft?

Since I do have a financial conflict of interest, I won't edit the article myself and am looking for uninvolved editors to review and make changes as appropriate. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 18:00, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

@Merxistan, Cristiano Tomás, and ThaiTee: Would any of you have time to review this request? You are the last three editors to edit this page, so I wonder if it might interest you. (It doesn't look like ThaiTee is active, but I'm pinging here in case this still interests them.) I'm trying to freshen up this article. Thanks 16912 Rhiannon for putting together that updated information, I have incorporated it into the article. Merxistan (talk) 21:42, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
@Merxistan: Thank you so much for your thorough review and for updating this article! Everything looks great. Just one question: I noticed that you did not include this sentence: Krafcik moved to become president of True Car, Inc. in 2014 and served as a director of the company's board.[1][2] Was there an issue with this content and/or sourcing? If so, I'm happy to address your concerns. Thanks again for your review here (and for updating the infobox at Waymo per my note. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:04, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

16912 Rhiannon thanks for catching that, it was an editing error. I have added that content into the page. Merxistan (talk) 17:29, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks so much for taking another look at that, Merxistan and thanks again for the overall review. Much appreciated! I'm looking into whether there's a better image for the article, then I think all my requests here are complete. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:30, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

New image for this article

Hi again! On behalf of Waymo, as part of my work at Beutler Ink, I've previous proposed some suggestions for this article, which Merxistan was kind enough to review and use to update the article. I'm now returning to offer a new image for the infobox to replace the existing one, which—while a good quality image—does not show Krafcik as clearly. Here's the new image, which Waymo has confirmed permissions for at Wikimedia Commons: File:John Krafcik 2018.png

Would this image be suitable to add to the infobox in place of the current one? Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 01:50, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

This is resolved. Thanks, Michael Bednarek. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:52, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
