Should this article even exist?

I apologize if people have already fought about whether this article should even exist or not. After reading the entirety of this article, I was so disturbed that I could not sleep well. I feel this material should at a minimum have a warning box at the top: WARNING: DREADFUL DETAIL BELOW. Given that all these facts exist online somewhere in news media, should there actually be an encyclopedia article about it? Should we have articles like this in Wikipedia that a twelve-year-old could reasonably stumble upon while reading about, say, Iraq? I read the entire Funk & Wagnalls Encyclopedia when I was a kid and there was nothing in it to compare with the graphically horrifying imagery in this article. This was a crime, not a war atrocity like the Mai Lai Massacre. The one redeeming thing about this story is the courage of the soldier who came forward, risking his life, to let the truth be known.Harborsparrow (talk) 20:09, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

While I empathize with the feelings of disgust that this historical event inspire, it is still a notable historical event and an important detail in the history of American-Iraqi relations and the events of the American-Iraq War and subsequent conflicts. As such, it belongs on Wikipedia, and generally Wikipedia allows readers to decide for themselves which articles they feel comfortable reading. AScanner (talk) 11:16, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

Yes it is indeed quite disturbing but, I'd like to remind you that Wikipedia is an encylopedia and represents what happened, most importantly Wikipedia is uncensored as seen in Wikipedia:Uncensored. Mr.DetectiveMan (talk) 19:28, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
