  • Be bold - if you know something about Cornwall then put it in! We value your contributions and don't be afraid if your spelling isn't great as there are plenty of spelling and grammar experts on clean-up duty!
  • Articles on settlements in Cornwall should be written using the standard set of headings approved by the UK geography WikiProject's guideline How to write about settlements.
  • At WikiProject Cornwall we subscribe to the policies laid down by Wikipedia - particularly civility and consensus building. We are aware that the wording on Cornish entries can sometimes be a contentious topic, especially those concerning geography. You don't have to agree with everything but there is no excuse for rudeness and these things are best solved through consensus building and compromise. For more information see WP:CornwallGuideline.
  • These pages are not platforms for political discussion. Issues relating to Cornish politics should be restricted to those pages that directly deal with these issues (such as Constitutional status of Cornwall, Cornish nationalism, etc) and should not overflow into other articles.
  • Most of all have fun editing - that's the reason we all do this, right?!

General questions

Over the past two days I've added material on Robert Were Fox the Younger. How about the following:

  1. Are public-domain photographs of Fox available?
  2. Is more known about Fox's early life, such as his education? <<REPLY>> Home educated.VW
  3. Can more be said about his inventions, such as the Fox dip circle? (A good idea from Vernon White, mentioned on my talk page.)
  4. Is a picture of Fox's gravesite available? <<REPLY>>I Hope to gain access to the Budock Burial Ground soon.VW <<Further reply>> No gravestone for RW Fox at Budock. The Burial Ground was vandalised in the 1970s and some stones broken. Vernon White . . . Talk 17:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
  5. Are there any memorials to Fox at the Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society? <<REPLY>> I don't think so, but the original dipping needle is said to be there. VW <<Further reply>> The Dipping Needle was exhibited at the recent Exhibition on the History of the Poly. Vernon White . . . Talk 17:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm thousands of miles from Cornwall, and haven't visited in 20 years (unfortunately). Someone closer in location than me probably would be better able to answer the above. - Astrochemist (talk) 15:27, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

There's a picture here [1], but I am unaware of the copyright status. DuncanHill (talk) 15:34, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
<<REPLIES>> by Vernon White . . . Talk 15:56, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
There's a picture of a Fox Dip circle here [2] alongside Sir James Clark Ross, who used it to predict the position of the South Magnetic Pole. DuncanHill (talk) 16:10, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
And here is a Wikipedia image of Ross and the Circle,

Photograph of Fox

Older books sometimes include a sketch or photograph of the author. Perhaps a public-domain photo of Fox can be found in an old volume, or perhaps in an obituary. - Astrochemist (talk) 15:27, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

After lots of searching I finally uncovered a public-domain picture of Fox. I've added it to the article, but I wonder if a better copy can be found. - Astrochemist (talk) 13:02, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Format of dates

Since Fox was English, should the format of this article's dates be day-month-year instead of month-day-year? I'm not familiar with Wikipedia's policy. - Astrochemist (talk) 01:28, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

For a discussion of dates see: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). Basically, don't sweat it, properly entered dates auto-fomat. --Ahc (talk) 03:25, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I resisted the temptation to change the dates for almost a year. I just now altered their format for consistency with the article's text. - Astrochemist (talk) 13:54, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Infobox

I just now added an infobox for Fox, patterned after the one on Richard Trevithick's page. Checking of the entries will be appreciated. - Astrochemist (talk) 19:18, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the infobox
