Using the term "special" for Dutch "bijzonder" schools is a problem, as there are also "speciaal" schools for children with special needs, for instance learning difficulties or disabilities. "Bijzonder" refers to privately owned schools, a better translation could be "particular". --82.181.90.152 16:17, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

In English this is called a charter school. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.89.236.170 (talk) 04:45, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Revision and proposed title change

I have revised and elongated the article, adding sub headers and a bunch of sources, and trying to settle on a terminology and stick to it throughout the article. Unfortunately, all the sources I used are in Dutch because I could find very little information in English. As others have suggested, I propose changing the name of the article to "particular education" to avoid confusion with the separate concept of a Dutch "speciale school". I also think this article might benefit from being incorporated into a larger article about the Dutch public-particular distinction, which could include a longer and more detailed section on the history and current controversy of religious education funding.--RaineBender (talk) 15:03, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
