This information seemed to be removed in edits. I believe it is reliably-sourced (particularly since The Moscow Times has covered it). Please let me know if there is cause for the information to be removed.

  • United Nations Security Council meets to discuss ongoing fighting around Idlib between Syrian Army and rebel groups.^[1]
  • UN states that 300,000 Syrian refugees have had to flee from Idlib due to violence.^[2]
• January 4
  • Turkey states that it has removed 97,000 unregistered Syrian refugees from Istanbul, and sent them to refugee camps outside of Istanbul.^[3]
• January 7
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin visits Syria, meets with Assad.^[4]
  • Syrian Army moves heavy artillery into Northwest Syria, north of al-Tamanah and Khan Sheikhoun, to resume offensive against rebel groups in that region.^[5]
• January 25
  • Syrian government forces reached the outskirts of the key rebel-held town of Maarat al-Numan. Over the past two days, Syrian troops captured at least six villages near the strategic town of Maaret al-Numan.^[6]

• February 15
  • The Turkish government states that President Erdogan spoke to President Trump of the United States, specifically to discuss ways to end the current fighting in Northwestern Syria. On the same day, Erdogan states publicly that Turkey will take action to end the conflict in that region by the end of February, if the conflict has not been resolved.^[7]
• February 16
  • Syrian government forces make major advances in Aleppo province.^[8]

I would like to thank everyone who is keeping this set of articles up to date. I am the Lead Coordinator for WikiProject History, and also the founder and lead coordinator for Contemporary History task force. As you all know, the situation in Syria is growing more serious and urgent. I started the task force for contemporary history[precisely to provide a way for Wikipedia to focus on curent issues as a community, and to raise knowledge of events around the globe, as they happen, with the basis of course if the topics are WP:Notable. I have one or two thoughts about this article.

• Would it be okay to consolidate all timeline articles for 2020 into one article for the whole year? that is more consistent with other timeline articles here. the three month parameter was used only because the conflict was so complex, as far as I can tell. now the conflict itself is winding down; however ironically the current months may bring some of the most critical and deep crises that Syria has seen in decades. perhaps this timeline article should cover the whole year? I am open to all views on this.
• Please do keep updating this. Wikipedia shines when we reflect the issues that truly affect the world, as long as we are in keeping of course with the five pillars of Wikipedia. I applaud everyone keeping this going.
• lastly, I encourage everyone to utilize local and regional news outlets where possible. some good sources are rudaw.net, araby.co, arabnews.com, al jazeera, etc etc

Ya sure that’s fine to make it one page for the entire year. I made it two pages because I was worried the article was getting too long. @Thepharoah17: this article will be renamed to History of the Syrian Civil War 2020- present. That way, we can retain the narrative format, and extend the article as long as we wish. Is that okay? The other option is to rename this article to Timeline of the Syrian Civil War in 2020. Feel free to let me know whatever is preferred. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 15:41, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Alright, fine, rename it to History of the Syrian Civil War 2020- present, in keeping with the MOS of the other timeline of Syrian civil war articles. Like you said, that way we can extend the article as long as we wish. Thepharoah17 (talk) 17:41, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Reading the talk page further, I think this happened when someone consolidated multiple timelines and/or decided to continue one extended period instead of continuing the trend of a separate timeline for every 3 months. Please stop adding events and/or using syrialivemap as a source for them, its a WP:SPS, instead look for other sources like SOHR, news, etcMr.User200 (talk) 21:36, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
