Since this is both un-cited and seems to be somebody's "guess", moving to Talk for now --

"In popular culture" -- This island seems to be the primary reference to the fictional 'Shadow Moses Island' (Fox Archipelago) scenario in which the Sony PlayStation video game Metal Gear Solid takes place.
