3RACHA (Hangul: 쓰리라차) is a South Korean hip-hop, rap unit, and music production trio who unofficially debuted in January 2017 via various music streaming platforms.[1] The name of the group is a play on words: "3" signifies the number of members tagged on to Sriracha, a hot sauce brand. The group consists of Bang Chan (CB97), Seo Chang-bin (SpearB), and Han Ji-sung (J.One) who are all individually signed under JYP Entertainment (JYPE). The three shared the goal of officially debuting as K-Pop idols, however, the idol trainee program can be extensive and last years.[2] The men started 3RACHA as trainees, and the trio have performed as a unit once before participating in a survival TV show titled Stray Kids produced by their company to debut a new idol boy group.[3] The trio officially debuted as idols part of K-Pop group Stray Kids in 2018 and are listed as the main songwriters and producers of all the group's albums.[4] In total, the trio has produced over 100 songs for themselves individually, 3RACHA, Stray Kids, and Taiwanese singer Show Lo (not including deleted songs).[5][6][7]

CB97 was born as Bang Chan (Korean: 방찬) on October 3rd, 1997. He initially used CB97 as his stage name while in the rap unit, but has changed his stage name to Bang Chan and uses CB97 as his producer name. The name CB97 comes from his initials and year of birth. He grew up in Sydney, Australia before he moved back to South Korea after passing the JYPE international auditions. In 2011, he began training under the JYPE trainee model at the age of 14 for a total of 7 years before debuting as the leader of Stray Kids.[clarification needed] He has produced and/or wrote the lyrics for the majority of Stray Kids and 3RACHA's music. CB97 does a weekly session on V Live where he recommends various songs to his fanbase (known as STAY) and other watchers.[8]

SpearB was born on August 11th, 1999, as Seo Chang-bin (Korean: 서창빈) in Yongin, South Korea. Similarly, he uses SpearB only when he performs with 3RACHA and as his producer name, whereas he uses his real name, Changbin, as his stage name. SpearB comes from the English translation of the first part of his name "Chang" meaning spear and the initial of the latter part. He trained for 2 years before debuting with Stray Kids. He is the main rapper of both Stray Kids and 3RACHA and is currently competing in a South Korean rap battle show called Show Me The Money.[9] He has competed in another TV show called King of Masked Singers as a singing contestant.[10]

Han Ji-sung (Korean: 한지성) was born in September 14th, 2000, and currently uses the stage name Han. He retired the name J.One from his stage name to his producer name like the others. J.One comes from his full name: "J" is from his first name and "One" is the literal English translation of his last name. He was born in Incheon, South Korea, but moved to Malaysia to attend an international school. He moved back and joined JYPE in 2014 and then joined DEF Academy on the side to hone his rapping skills.[11] He trained for 3 years before debuting in Stray Kids. His current position is main rapper and lead vocalist. He also participated in the King of Masked Singer show before SpearB.[12]
History
CB97, being the senior trainee out of the trio thus the member with the most experience with singing, rapping, dancing, and producing, created the group by handpicking the members (as he did for Stray Kids)[13]. 3RACHA first posted their tracks on various streaming platforms: Youtube, SoundCloud, and a South Korean rap forum called HipHople.[14][15][16] They attempted to communicate in the forum with little responses from the community. The trio first performed in a show called Germination 21 (Korean: 발아21) in July 3rd, 2017, and were well received.[17][18] While their career prior to Stray Kids was short, they continued performing together and are still known as their own unit. They performed the opening act to Stray Kids in numerous award shows such as the MAMA Awards as well as K-Pop focused concerts like KCON.[19][20]
