Patrick Leahy

A big fan of comic books, especially Batman, Leahy has written introductions for two comic book anthologies, and one graphic novel. He has also filmed five Batman cameo appearances, and voiced one for an animated Batman television episode.

Leahy’s Dark Knight cameo was notable for his interaction with the Joker (Heath Ledger), in which he tells the Joker “We’re not intimidated by thugs”, to which the Joker replies, “You know, you remind me of my father. I hated my father.”[4] In The Dark Knight Rises, Leahy defends the Wayne family legacy against attempts to usurp the company by industrialist John Daggett.

All royalties and fees from Leahy’s roles are donated to charities, primarily the Kellogg-Hubbard library in Vermont where he read comic books as a child.[5][2]

Quotes/Notes
“The year was 1883, your government was ruthlessly expanding westward.” —Ra’s al-Ghul’s recording
WELCOME TO DEVILS HOLE” —Town sign (3:46)
† The actual Devils Hole was part of the New Mexico Territory (1850–1863), and the Arizona Territory (1863–1867), before becoming part of the State of Nevada in 1867.
“Today, on this momentous period in history, we link our great western lands with the east. Before this great enterprise, envisioned by myself, there was nothing here but wilderness; and from it, with bare hands, hard work, and dedication, we have hewn a civilized land. And so it gives me great pleasure as a Territorial Governor to drive the golden spike which will connect these two great sections of the North American continent.” —Governor’s speech (13:04)
‡ In 1883, two transcontinental railroads were completed; The Southern Pacific Railroad at the Pecos River bridge in the State of Texas, and the Northern Pacific Railway, near Independence Creek in the Montana Territory.

Uncle Jesse’s principles

The following brief dialog exchange illustrates both Uncle Jesse's morals, and his attempts to pass them on to his nephews, in a scene often repeated thematically in the Dukes of Hazzard.

After Jesse refuses to sell his moonshine to Jake (the county boss, who wants to blend it in bulk and sell it to the New York Syndicate)

Balladeer – (voice over) “Jesse had to be sure in his own mind that he was refusing Jake out of his convictions, and not from pride.”
Bobby – “He was gonna pay you double.”
Grady – “Jesse, now I know that Jake thinks he’s a badass and all, but, well he’s a pretty good ol’ boy. Ain’t he Lee?”
Bobby – “He’s one of us.”
Grady – “Now, I mean, if he’s got his tail in a crack. Jessie, ain’t you gonna help him?”
Jesse – (referring to a bottle of moonshine, and sighing) “You know what that is?”
Bobby – “Yea, it’s a jug of liquor.”
Jesse – “Look again. That’s a model T Ford, it’s a Winchester Repeatin’ Rifle, it’s a Whitney Cotton Gin.”
Grady – “Jesse, you ok?”
Jesse – “Don’t you see? That’s one of a kind, the best of its kind. That little jug is history. No money ever compromised it, no government ever made me conform. And you know boys, I actually pay taxes on my liquor.”
Bobby – “What?”
Jesse – “That’s right, all the liquor money I get is declared as farm income, from the corn, every penny tax paid, and its still illegal.”
Bobby – “Jesse, what the hell are you doin’ paying taxes?”
Grady – “Jesse, if anybody ever found out about this.”
Jesse – “Because the Bible says ‘render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s’, and boys those taxes sure belong to Caesar. Am I to compromise, all the things I’ve done my whole life for a few extra dollars. Just to help a little man, think he’s a big man. Boys, it’s a matter of principle.”

Wagon Queen

The Wagon Queen Family Truckster (WQFT) has been attributed to Barris on many webpages—including Wikipedia since at least 2008-07-16—but none of the pages cite a source, and may just be using Wikipedia. There is a notable page Griswold Family Truckster that states Barris did not design the WQFT, but their reference is another fan. More notably, George Barris' own website does not claim the WQFT one of his designs. (Barris.com TV & Movie cars). Based on that I think we should remove mention of Barris as the designer until a source citing some evidence is found. ―MJBurrage(TC) 23:30, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
