Wikimania 2012 bid, DC chapter & next meetup!

  1. At WikiXDC in January, User:Harej proposed that DC submit a bid to host Wikimania 2012. A bid and organizing committee is being formed and seeks additional volunteers to help. Please look at our bid page and sign up if you want to help out. You can also signup for the bid team's email list.
  2. To support the Wikimania bid, more events like WikiXDC, and outreach activities like collaborations with the Smithsonian (ongoing) and National Archives, there also has been discussion of forming Wikimedia DC, as an official Wikimedia chapter. You can express interest and contribute to chapter discussions on the Wikimedia DC Meta-Wiki pages.
  3. To discuss all this and meet up with special guest, Dutch Wikipedian User:Kim Bruning, there will be a meetup, Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 16 this Tuesday at 7pm, at Capitol City Brewery, Metro Center. There will be a pre-meetup Wikimania team meeting at 6pm at the same location.

Apologies for the short notice for the meetup. Stay tuned for more meetups and activities this spring, and join wikimedia-dc mailing list for more announcements and discussion. Cheers, User:Aude (talk)

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

Thank you for your comments regarding the issues I raised with the article on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. I have proposed a new lead for the article on the stimulus over at the article's talk page. I was wondering if you could take a look at it and weigh in. Thanks again, JEN9841 (talk) 00:52, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Specification (regression)

Back in 2007, you indicated on its talk page that you had thoughts of adding a lot to the article Specification (regression). The presdent version seems somewhat pointless as it is. JA(000)Davidson (talk) 12:35, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Bkwillwm. Please check your email; you've got mail!

Great work!

Hi Bkwillwm!

I just wanted to say how much I respect your work on the article, which is a very ambitious topic, which is very well done. I wish I had commented before, and helped more. I trust that the article can get FA status very soon.

Best regards,  Kiefer.Wolfowitz 21:03, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Further good work on the Malinvaud diagram! (The concluding section discusses somebody's (Gordon's?) call for further research on disequilibrium economics, so it does seem that modest expansion of equilibrium economics is justified.)  Kiefer.Wolfowitz 00:21, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Re:User page format

No problem, you seem to have formatted it much more quickly than I did. (I adopted mine from TerrierFans' old layout, and it took about 15 edits to get right) Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:39, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Library of Congress Country Studies, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject Library of Congress Country Studies and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 06:37, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Are you ok with my suggestion of including the Library of Congress studues information under the Library of Congress project? As I mentioned this project is a little slow at the moment but it should pick up shortly with some initiatives currently in the works. --Kumioko (talk) 13:59, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Non-Free rationale for File:Ludlow strike cellar hole.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ludlow strike cellar hole.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under Non-Free content criteria but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a Non-Free rationale.

If you have uploaded other Non-Free media, consider checking that you have specified the Non-Free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. List of price index formulas

Just FYI -- I've been struggling with Tornqvist index a good while. I prefer expressions for it that are explicit about how to incorporate all the goods i=1 to n. Sources often seem to compress the expression so it's not clear how to calculate it. I put this form into the excellent list you started. No worries if you change it. -- Econterms (talk) 23:50, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Subnational economy

Thanks for the creating the Template:Infobox subnational economy, it is good to see that some one has created one. However I do have some issues with it which I have left on the discussion page. It is a bit American centric for me to use on none US subnational pages which is what I would like to do. Might need moving or internationalising.--Discott (talk) 17:21, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Liquidity trap, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Crowding out (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

National Archives ExtravaSCANza

You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! 1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited.

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:09, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Economics, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Crowding out (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Backstage at the Smithsonian Libraries

Backstage at the Smithsonian Libraries is part of Wikipedia Loves Libraries 2012, the second annual continent-wide campaign to bring Wikipedia and libraries together with on-site events. Running this fall through October and November, libraries (and archives) will open their doors to help build a lasting relationship with their local Wikipedian community.

Organized by Wikimedia DC, this event will take place on October 12, 2012, and will include new editor training, a "backstage pass" tour of the National Museum of Natural History, and an edit-a-thon. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Sandy and Global Warming

I personally don't have a problem with your beliefs, but they don't IMHO belong in the article. Discuss it on the Global Warming page with facts and references to back up facts, not conjecture, that Sandy was a result of man heating earth and not just earth being earth. Respectfully submitted.

Kennvido (talk) 01:34, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

When other people supply cited material, you need more than your opinion to explain why it does not belong. The section you removed and the section I added used scientific sources. So far all you have done is remove science based commentary calling it "political." I see no reason to discuss this on Global Warming when there is already a pertinent discussion on Hurricane Sandy.--Bkwillwm (talk) 01:39, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
What Bk said. Since the ocean and atmos are warmer than they would be without AGW it is no longer possible for the (paraphrased) "earth to just be the earth". Every weather event is now happening with extra BTUs in the overall system. That means more water vapor in storms; which means more condensation when precip forms; which not only means more precip (obviously) but less obvious is that the latent heat given off at the moment of condensation feeds all those extra BTUs to the energy driving the storm in the first place. Then there are all the changes to ocean currents off which the storms feed. In this context it is just as impossible for the earth to just be the earth as it would be impossible for Armstrong to win one Tour with the help of long term steroid use and then win the following one strictly by Lance just being Lance... which of course was the whole point of two of the four refs in the deleted section! Your POV may wish to believe that earth can just keep on being earth but the apolitical shifts in the systems jetstreams and ocean currents due to extra BTU accumulation say otherwise. SuggestBot currently skipping large pages

Hi,

Due to issues with saving large pages, we have currently set SuggestBot to skip such pages. This means it's currently not posting suggestions here, as you might have noticed. We recommend (re)moving some of the content (either manually or through automatic means), or moving SuggestBot's configuration template to a sub-page in your userspace, which will make it post the suggestions there instead (see the sign-up instructions for more info).

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions, either here or on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards, Nettrom (talk) 18:29, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
