Closing a DYK template without prejudice

Crisco, I've just combined two templates into one to make a double hook, and this one, Template:Did you know nominations/Propeller (Peter Stuart album), is the one effectively being abandoned. Is there an easy way to close it down? I've seen other people end reviews with something other than a "rejected" or "approved", but I don't know how to do it myself (what keywords aside from "yes" or "no" are acceptable in the "passed" parameter, and will cause the closing of the nomination).

In this case, the new double hook will be under Template:Did you know nominations/Peter Stuart; I've just included it in my latest list of aging nominations needing reviews, since no one had attempted a review of either hook separately.

Thanks for any help you can give me. BlueMoonset (talk) 07:18, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

  • I could simply delete it, or close it and remove the categories and change the text. As far as I know Rjanag only gave the two keywords. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:20, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Prep areas not taken in order

Crisco, was there a good reason you skipped over prep 3? I had designed it so it would be ideal for a US and Pacific nations (e.g., the New Zealand lead and Indonesian hook later) day/early evening, but you promoted 1, 2, and 4, leaving 3 behind. Since prep 4 has been moved to queue 6 in its place, prep 3 going to run overnight in the US, while what's in queue 6 is going to run overnight in Europe, and its first three hooks are European bios which were probably chosen to run during the day. (I thought I'd have time to straighten out the three bios in a row, but I guess not.)

If you can, it would be best to move queue 6 to queue 1 and promote prep 3 to queue 6. Whatever you plan to do, please let me know: the prep set that eventually becomes queue 2 needs to include the Vancouver cathedral from the special holding area, but I don't want to promote it until this all settles down. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:13, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

  • I skipped prep 3 because one of my articles is there. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:15, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
  • If you don't consider it a COI, I'll put things back in the original order. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:16, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
  • I have to admit I wasn't thinking in terms of COI, I was thinking in terms of planning and assembling preps knowing when they'll be promoted. I honestly don't want you to do anything you feel would be a COI on your part: if that comes up, it seems to me that the best thing would be to stop promoting when you run into a prep area that's a COI situation and leave all the remaining prep areas there, in order, for someone else to promote. The way we assemble prep areas these days, with an eye on what runs when and pulling from the special holding area so hooks run at a pre-specified time, leaving them in the right order is the safest thing to do. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:33, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Not that big of a COI, so I have no issues. Already done. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:19, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
Found it! For next time, Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Archive 81#Queue 3 contains the formula for having a queue set give credit for DYKs on behalf of the project rather than oneself, for when one of one's own hooks is in the set :-) It was you it arose with before, you do so much work for DYK '-) --Yngvadottir (talk) 13:02, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Crisco, does this article hold together for DYK purposes? I've been trying to get Lucky102 there, but I've lost my perspective on it, and would like an independent eye to decide (including whatever icon is appropriate). I'm not sure the latest addition does what was needed from my point of view, but I want another viewpoint. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:58, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Re-listing?

Hi mate, saw you re-listed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Solidcam. Was really hoping this could just be closed, having gone on for 8 days without making any significant ground.

Not that we're "counting votes", but all of the "Keep" votes have been from meat-puppets/socks and none have included any actual arguments or cited any sources which might help the subject meet WP:GNG.

I get that the original author now wants time to find more sources but given the sock-puppetry, COI-editing and lack of willingness to engage constructively, I can't see how we're likely to get anything of value from the original author (who declared a connection to the company being WP:PROMO'd) beyond what we have so far.

If you're going to re-list it, could I ask you look at it again in a day or two, rather than let this drag on for another week?

Thanks mate, Stalwart111 (talk) 23:29, 10 October 2012 (UTC).

I agree - given the vote rigging, the underlying position is clearly a concensus to delete. Brookie :) { - he's in the building somewhere!} (Whisper...) 08:37, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Solidcam afd

Given that just about all of the Keeps appear to be from the originator and "custodian" of the article and his sockpuppets or meatpuppets (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Sentineldk) - can you strike the latter two out? as these are skewing how the votes actually are without them? Brookie :) { - he's in the building somewhere!} (Whisper...) 08:36, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Excuse me?

Crisco, last I checked, I could say as I pleased, within reason. Certainly folk have on my page, Tomcat included. Please allow me the same freedom of expression. especially as it may well be my last. Kafka Liz (talk) 05:01, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

  • I will not revert you any further, but I strongly suggest you reconsider your position, both on leaving and on provoking Tomcat. Let the drama llama rest. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:02, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
A) I'm not provoking, just telling the truth, and B)... adios, amigos. Kafka Liz (talk) 05:04, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Perhaps you do not intend to provoke, but the end results may, in the end, be the same. Having noted your edits to literary articles (an area in which I myself have interest) I think adios is, in the end, harmful to the encyclopedia, but if you find continued contribution unsustainable more the power to you. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:06, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Crisco, you're someone I've always respected. My leaving is not harmful, though it may not be helpful. I'm very sick of the attitudes of people who see fit to template me, yourself and "Tomcat" included. Hope you both feel you've done a good day's work. Kafka Liz (talk) 05:14, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
  • You did not leave a notice that you prefer not to be templated, so I did not know. Should you choose to return I will keep that in mind. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:16, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Last I checked, it was general policy not to template the regulars. I may not be entirely regular, but I am familiar with policy - I was here for a while. Kafka Liz (talk) 05:27, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
  • WP:DTTR is an essay and not policy. Some accept it, some don't. I don't mind templates, personally, assuming they are called for. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:31, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Chapman

Thanks for the comments and copy-edit on Chapman. I won't have time to get to them tonight, but I just wanted to check something. I noticed that you are adding nbsp between numerals and words, but I'm not completely convinced that they are all necessary according to MOS. Cricket articles use a huge number of figures, and adding spaces to all of them makes editing the articles a little tricky afterwards as the figures get a little lost in code. So generally, I prefer not to use them, and I know of few other sports articles (which are inevitably heavy in statistics) which use them. However, if I am missing an important point, fair enough. Sarastro1 (talk) 23:46, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

  • A habit, really. I'll stop now if you're worried about the code (not required, after all) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:53, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
For my own sanity when editing the article (too many figures!!!), I've reverted the spaces you added. Feel free to shout at me. Sarastro1 (talk) 18:04, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
  • No problem, if its just the nbsp. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:37, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

What the?

I nominated a page for speedy deletion and then it was declined, I wanted to know the reason but I can't find my edit, nor the edit of the one who declined the deletion in the page history, the article is Liripop --TheChampionMan1234 05:25, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Move

Hallo Crisco
i have a question: an user moved the article Italo-Turkish War to Italo-Turkish War (1911-1912). This move is totally useless, since (until now :-)) Italy and Turkey have been at war only once, so there is no need to disambiguate. So, the article should be removed again (unless there is a compelling reason to stick with the new name), but I forgot the procedure. I you please tell me where is the right place to deal with this un-move? Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 09:38, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

Hallo Crisco,
In the meantime I remembered the procedure (my Alzheimer is not that advanced yet :-)), and I put the corresponding templates on the article and its talk page. I hope that it is ok. Thanks, Alex2006 (talk) 10:24, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

I am sorry about it: I didn't know it was THAT important. I tried to undo the change... but system didn't allow me.
I promise I will not change war titles again ... but I have moved it because lots of battles have the year in the title: that's why.
Sorry again.

Just a quick not to say thanks ever so much for taking the time on the above's FLC. We are very appreciative at having your support. Incidentally, my next splurge at FAC will be Joseph Grimaldi which is just coming to the end of its peer review. I would be very grateful if you could swing by if you have the time. Yomangani has done a good job at checking my uploaded images, but in my experience, it maybe worthwhile having a second opinion on these, as images are invariably where the future headaches lay. All the best! -- CassiantoTalk 08:59, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

  • I'll consider it, but I'm not sure how much time I'll have for an FAC. At a glance it looks a little image heavy. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:07, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello Crisco. No offense taken as to your remark on the paraphrasing scrutiny in the Ghabaghib DYK nom, it's DYK criteria. Nevertheless, I'm not sure what you meant by "previous experience"? I've had over 30 DYKs passed in the past month or so, and only one attracted a paraphrasing-related comment. Not to mention that I don't remember you reviewing any of my nominations to begin with.
— Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:20, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Crisco, can I ask you to take a look at this one? The back-and-forth between Gerda and Abyssal doesn't seem to have established whether this is a legitimate sub-article or not, and it's not something I feel qualified to parse. As an admin, I figure you live and breathe this sort of thing, or at least know who does. I didn't want to add it to my list of articles needing review lest it be picked up by someone even less qualified than I, though if you do deem it appropriate, just let me know, or add it directly to my new list of articles needing review, which I'm preparing now. Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:10, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

List of prime ministers of Indonesia

I just wanted to bring up that the list of Prime Ministers of Indonesia as it stands is slightly faulty as it conflates the pre-1950 Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of the United States of Indonesia, which were separate entities from 1949 to 1950. Mohammad Hatta was Prime Minister of the RUSI until August 1950; Natsir succeeded Hatta directly since the modern republic was proclaimed as a successor to the RUSI: Hatta ceased to be Prime Minister of the RUSI on 17 August 1950 when the RUSI was dissolved and replaced by the modern Republic of Indonesia; Natsir was appointed as formateur on 21 August and became Prime Minister shortly after. Abdul Halim was not involved in this succession, from January to August 17 he was Prime Minister of the "Republic of Indonesia" which was a member-state of the RUSI, but he was not PM of Indonesia as a whole. I will copy this point to the article talk page, but I wanted to raise it to you directly since you're actually around and so it stands a better chance of getting addressed. --Tyrannus Mundi (talk) 14:56, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

  • Yeah, that list needs work - especially in dealing with the coinciding RIS and RI governments. Any thoughts on formatting? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:16, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Freedom of speech = New WikiProject

Hi there, I'm notifying you as I noticed your excellent work on the Featured List page, CPJ International Press Freedom Awards. I've recently gone ahead and created WP:WikiProject Freedom of speech. If you're interested, here are some easy things you can do:

  1. List yourself as a participant in the WikiProject, by adding your username here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Freedom_of_speech#Participants.
  2. Add userbox {{User Freedom of speech}} to your userpage, which lists you as a member of the WikiProject.
  3. Tag relevant talk pages of articles and other relevant pages using {{WikiProject Freedom of speech}}.
  4. Join in discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Freedom of speech.
  5. Notify others you think might be interested in Freedom of speech to join the WikiProject.

Thank you for your interest in Freedom of speech, — Cirt (talk) 17:36, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

2 FLCs

I think you're right when you said in Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Archbishops of Vancouver/archive1 that the list should be merged into the main article. There are now 2 oppose votes to the FLC; do you think I should withdraw the nomination because of this? The two reviewers said I should expand the list, but there really isn't much I can add further to it (since all the bios are in the individual articles linked).

Furthermore, could I trouble you to review my other FLC (Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/Dick Howser Trophy/archive1). It's on the verge of getting passed and the co-nominator of this FLC needs it passed by October 31 in order for him to count it towards his 2012 WikiCup points. Hi there, I created a page awhile back for Joanna Clapps Herman previously and it was deleted because of lack of references but I've found more articles and would like to try again. It was also the first page I had ever created so I think I've gotten better and understand how it works. Thanks again, hope you're having a nice weekend. Srdemuro (talk) 13:31, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Adi.akbartauhidin (talkcontribs)

Hey again, thanks for being so helpful with this, I'm determined! I found a few newspapers, not huge ones, but decently popular - two different Patch newspapers and the Rockland Times (started 1888), so should I add those to begin with, until I find more? Srdemuro (talk) 19:28, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

The newspapers are Rockland Times & The Bronxville Patch. Where can I find information on how to make my reference formatting better? Thanks for the encouragement & patience, it's tough to be a new editor! Srdemuro (talk) 11:13, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Hey again, sorry to bother you again, I redid lots of the citations as suggested, how do they look? I prefer the look of the dates being at the end of the citations instead of the beginning, just for aesthetic reasons/I have always been taught to cite this way. Let me know if this something you think I should change. Thanks for your time!! I've been working hard at this. Srdemuro (talk) 23:49, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Hey there, I fixed the citations you spoke of and realized I was missing a lot of publishers, so I went back and added them. Let me know what you think now. Srdemuro (talk) 19:27, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Okay so I'll work on finding more resources and fixing publishers so they're not italicized. I know that academic journals are usually italicized but not websites and such. I'll fix this. Can we publish it in the meantime? I know it's borderline but I'd really like to see it up there and then I can continue adding to it as I find more resources. Please give me a chance? First time editor pity? haha. Not sure where you are but this hurricane Sandy is crazy on the East Coast of US where I am. Srdemuro (talk) 15:14, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

The Joke

So I just put together my first film article after watching this movie last night and being surprised that it didn't have an entry. This doesn't necessarily need close proofreading, but would you take a glance and make sure the article format is consistent with other film articles? I know you know your way around these.

Also, I can't find images of any surviving posters, as this one was banned shortly after release. Would it be fair use to put an image of the video box (e.g. [3] or a still (e.g. [4])? Or both? Thanks, man, enjoy the day. -- Khazar2 (talk) 14:27, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Theory of Literature query

Hi Crisco,

I've spent a couple of pleasant hours in the first few chapters of ToL. Unfortunately I've only been able to locate the third edition (the second Penguin imprint, 1982) and the page numbers are significantly different from the 1949 edition you used to write the article. Mostly this isn't a problem, but I did run across across a sentence where the cite is eluding me, and I'm wondering if this may be due to a difference between the text of the two editions. The sentence is "They define literary scholarship as extremely personal[21] and contrasted with the literary arts by its scientific and not creative approach.[22]" Notes 21 and 22 refer to pages 8 and 3, respectively. When you get a moment, could you send me the first few words of the two paragraphs that contain the material you were citing?

Specifically, this edition does discuss scientific approaches to literature (echos of Pound, of course), but I'm not seeing the contrast made between "literary scholarship" and "literary arts".

Please reply here rather than on my page. It helps me keep track of who said what to whom.

Thanks!
