I am not convinced that the fair use argument for this image is valid. The topic of a "unicorn" has plenty of images— the argument that the only valid image of this particular rendition of an unicorn, the one from the Monster Manual, is this particular rendition, appears circular. The image is protected by copyright, and a fair use argument for its use on the English Wikipedia must be watertight... to argue it is the only image that could be used because it is the only image of a unicorn is, of course, groundless. To me, this looks like something we cannot host. But I am interested in having others' input on this. KDS4444Talk 10:21, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. Can you clarify for me what constitutes "copyrighted character design"? If by that you mean, is the "character" a creation unique to and therefore copyrightable by TSR Games in the way that Mickey Mouse and Darth Vader are property of Disney, my own answer is "I don't think so." TSR does have several monster character concepts which are unique to it, but that list won't include any of the "classical" monster like pixies, or ogres though I believe would include things like the otyugh et al. KDS4444Talk 14:52, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • The image is replaceable by one that is freely licensed. The D&D unicorn is based on the creature of myth, and its external appearance is not different from the usual depictions of mythical unicorns. -- Whpq (talk) 22:55, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I concur with Whpq. If someone wants to find a free equivalent from commons, it can be changed out without further discussion. Jclemens (talk) 04:02, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There are two files here, an older one which I can't identify at all and a second one which exists at File:Turovsky2.jpg. This file is unused and shadows a Commons file so should probably be deleted unless someone can identify the topic. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 11:24, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free logo being used in Argentine Rugby Union, Argentine national rugby union team, Argentina Jaguars, Argentina national under-20 rugby union team and Argentina national rugby union team (sevens). The usage in teams article does not seem to comply with WP:NFCC per number 17 of WP:NFC#UUI. I suggest removing the badge from all the articles with the exception of "Argentine Rugby Union". - Fma12 (talk) 13:03, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This image is being used under a fair use claim. I am not convinced such a claim is valid. The "centaur" as a creature is not a character concept owned by TSR games, and so this artist's rendition of one, which is in close concert with the original Ancient Greek imagery, does not qualify as a fair use of the image. If you want a picture of a centaur, we have plenty of those— there is no compelling reason I can see why this particular image must be used, and therefore no viable claim for fair use of it. KDS4444Talk 15:49, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. As far as I'm concerned, there is no need for a fair use claim of this image, so the centaur depicted is not the same than TSR Games' one. Fma12 (talk) 17:04, 19 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • The D&D centaur is based on the centaur of mythology, and has the same external appearance so any free image of a centaur should suffice. No need for a non-free one. -- Whpq (talk) 22:59, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: does this need to be discussed again? Could these placeholders not be deleted under the consensus of the previous discussion you linked? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:06, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@MSGJ: I've seen (offwiki) some events where two very similar things ended up being treated differently at the end due to some important difference or another. I don't think this is the case here, though, so probably yes.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:27, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have deleted the local versions of these files, and create-protected each. It does not seem to be possible to upload-protect a non-existent image; perhaps this is a bug? For example, see the 18:02 entry in this log, which did not seem to have any effect on the file. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:09, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@MSGJ: I just tried to upload a file to and I receive "Upload error This image name or media file name is protected." so I guess that creation protection does the same thing.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 18:47, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The way the interface is designed (with upload and create protection separately listed) leads you to believe you can set them differently. But perhaps it's not needed. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:30, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
