Ellis-Bextor tuli tunnetuksi vuonna 2000 Spillerin kappaleesta Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love).^[1] Hänen äitinsä Janet Ellis oli juontaja ja isänsä Robin Bextor elokuvatuottaja.^[1] 1990-luvun lopulla hän oli laulajana Theaudience-yhtyeessä.^[1] Hänen debyyttialbuminsa oli Read My Lips (2001).^[1]
