Interstate Highway System
Sistemul național Dwight D. Eisenhower de autostrăzi interstatale și de apărare (în engleză Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways), cunoscut mai mult ca Sistemul de Autostrăzi Interstatale sau Sistemul Șoselelor Interstatale (în engleză Interstate Highway System), este o rețea de autostrăzi care face parte din sistemul național de autostrăzi din Statele Unite. Construcția sistemului a fost autorizată prin Legea Ajutorului Federal pentru Șosele din 1956 (în engleză Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956). Sistemul se extinde pe tot cuprinsul Statelor Unite și are rute în Hawaii, Alaska și Puerto Rico.
Întrucât denumirea și numerotarea acestor șosele a fost făcută prin coordonare între state, acestea sunt uneori numite Autostrăzi Federale, dar drumurile propriu-zise au fost mereu întreținute de guvernele statelor sau administrațiile locale ale unităților pe care le traversează, de la organizarea lor în 1926. După ce construcția a fost finalizată, multe drumuri americane au fost înlocuite cu șoselele interstatale, drumuri rapide pentru traficul de tranzit. În ciuda sistemului interstatal, drumurile vechi încă mai formează multe conexiuni regionale importante, și încă se adaugă rute.
Sistemul de autostrăzi interstatale este parțial finanțat prin Highway Trust Fund, care în sine este finanțat de o taxă federală pe combustibil. Deși legislația federală a interzis inițial colectarea taxelor, unele rute interstatale sunt drumuri cu taxă. Mai multe rute viitoare sunt în curs de dezvoltare.
