The Hürtgen forest (also: Huertgen Forest; German: Hürtgenwald) is along the border between Belgium and Germany. The forest is in the southwest corner of the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The Rur River runs along the eastern edge of the forest.
During World War II, the U.S. and German armies took part in the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. In 1998, HBO made When Trumpets Fade, which is a movie about the battle.
