En İyi Sınırlı veya Antoloji Dizileri için Primetime Emmy Ödülü, toplam süresi en az 150 dakika olan, iki veya daha fazla bölümden oluşan mini dizi kategorisinde verilen bir ödüldür.

Program eksiksiz, tekrar etmeyen bir hikâye anlatmalı ve sonraki sezonlarda devam eden bir hikâyesi veya ana karakterleri olmamalıdır.[1]

Geçmişi

Bu kategoride ödül verilmeye 1973'te En İyi Drama/Komedi – Sınırlı Bölümler olarak [2] başlandı. O yıldan önce, sınırlı diziler ve mini diziler, Üstün Diziler - Drama için devam eden dizilerle aynı kategoriye giriyordu. 1972'de Los Angeles Times'ta yayınlanan bir gazete makalesine göre [3] bu değişiklik, daha önce var olan aynı kategoride Amerikan yapımı dizilerle rekabet giren bir dizi İngiliz yapımı sınırlı diziden kaynaklanıyor olabilir. Kategori, 1974'te Olağanüstü Sınırlı Dizi ve daha sonra 1986'da Üstün Mini Dizi olarak yeniden adlandırıldı [2]

1991 yılında, Olağanüstü Mini Dizi kategorisi, Olağanüstü TV Filmi ile birleştirildi ve ardından Üstün Drama/Komedi Özel olarak adlandırıldı ve Üstün Drama/Komedi Özel ve Mini Dizi olarak adlandırıldı ve aday sayısı beşten altıya çıkarıldı.[4] O yıl için, iki mini dizi dört "televizyon için yapılmış film" ile yarışmıştı. Karar 1992'de geri alındı. 2011'de antoloji dizisi American Horror Story nedeniyle 2014'te geri dönmeden önce, Olağanüstü Mini Diziler veya Filmler için Primetime Emmy Ödülü olarak tekrar birleştirildi.[5] Bir yıl sonra, ödül kategorisinin adı Olağanüstü Sınırlı Dizi olarak değiştirildi ve bu kategoriyi bir filmden, eserin en az iki bölüm olması ve normal bir diziden farklı olması için kurallar getirildi.[1] 2015 kural değişikliği, daha kısa sezon kablolu TV programlarının rekabet etmesine izin verirken, önceki kurallar aynı programları tüm sezon yayınlanan kanal programlarıyla aynı kategoride rekabet etmeye zorlamıştı.

Son yıllarda (ve bugün bile) bu ödülle ilgili benzersiz olan şey, neredeyse her zaman Büyük Britanya'dan gelen en az bir adayın olmasıdır. Örneğin, 2005 galibi, o yılki İngiliz temsilcisi olan Kayıp Prens'ti. 2006 Galibi Elizabeth I, Amerikan televizyon ağı HBO ile ortak yapım olmasına rağmen, aynı zamanda bir İngiliz mini dizisiydi. Aynı şekilde, 2019 galibi Çernobil, İngiliz ve Amerikan şirketlerinin ortak yapımıydı (bu durumda Sky UK ve HBO).
