At Hume Barbour Trophy is a reference to a descendant of Hamilton Hume - "The competition was first held in 1930 after a trophy was donated to the NSW Department of Education by Miss Hume-Barbour, a descendant of the Australian explorer - Hamilton Hume". There are various ghits for “hamilton hume descendant”, and for “descendant of Hamilton Hume”. I am also aware that 200 of his supposed descendants celebrated his bicentenary on 19 June 1997 near Yass. This was presumably the exact day, although some sources say he was born 18 June 1797.

So, what’s with these descendants? He did marry, but had no children afaik. Or did he? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 09:06, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

The Australian bio says that he "practically commandeered the eldest son of his youngest brother, Francis Rawdon Hume", and that they were together until near to his death. This record [1] describes Hamilton Hume Barber as his descendent, but this record [2] describes "Mary Letitia Barber" as a a grandniece of Hume's. It would seem likely that we are dealing with the descendent of his nephew, and also likely to be descendent of a grandniece. Probably not quite enough hard evidence for WP yet, but a family tree must exist somewhere. --Inas66 (talk) 04:28, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi there, I am writing a biography of an Indigenous guide who came into contact with Hamilton Hume in his younger days. In looking for images of Hume I saw the one included in this Wikipedia article with the very long beard attributed to August Tronier in 1873. Comparing this image with others of Hume both younger and older (he died in 1873) I can't see any resemblance. The eyes are different particularly the shape of the eyebrows (Hume's were particularly distinctive). Does anyone know where this image was sourced from and can they verify it is Hume? I also noted in the Google image search that quite a few pictures of his fellow explorer Hovell were included under the Hume search so it pays to be careful when choosing a verifiable image.Thanks for your help! I have come with the same comment. Is it possible that the 'younger' portrait, here attributed to being of 'Hamilton Andrew Hume', is his father Andrew Hamilton Hume? Roy Scherer (talk) 08:05, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

No - I'm wrong about it possibly being his father - the first photograph is similar to the ones in the State Library - https://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/stories/hume-and-hovell and is definitely Hume. However, I maintain the second photo (described as in his later years) is not of Hamilton Hume. Roy Scherer (talk) 08:11, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
