Middle Ages/Mosaic sandbox
Palais des Papes, Avignon
Council of Clermont
the three classes of medieval society: the clergy, knights and peasantry
Clockwise from top: Palais des Papes, Avignon; the medieval social classes: the clergy, knights and peasantry; and the Council of Clermont

I've created this page as a venue to workshop potential mosaics alongside the discussion at Talk:Middle_Ages#Mosaic_brainstorming. In the initial version here, I've already tweaked the first image - switching a higher quality image of a mosaic depicting Emperor Justinian - an image I had missed when making the original selection, and switching out the modern photo of a cathedral for a high middle ages depiction of the three classes of society. Based on feedback I've trialed a slimmed down version with one castle pic, one social classes pic, and the Council of Clermont, which is representative both of religious (and specifically papal) power in Europe at the time, and, of course, launched the Crusades - a defining political, religious and military cause in Europe during the era. They are all good images, but they are 3 images of Catholic clergy, or their homes. Also all from the Late Middle Ages, and all French. Johnbod (talk) 15:04, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
