The swallow follow torus definition is kind of awkward, hanging on to the end of the paragraph like that. I've never heard of it being used solely in the context of connect-sum knots before. In the definition as-is, usually is called a swallow-follow torus. It's usually a colloquial term anyhow -- Schubert didn't give it a proper name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by rybu (talk • contribs)
- yeah, I think it can be safely deleted...it's a partial remnant from the original stub, I guess. As for what the definition of "swallow-follow torus" is, I don't agree that any essential torus in the knot complement is called that. The reference, Adams, actually defines it as being obtained from the essential annulus of a knot sum, and it matches the usage I've seen knot theorists use (for example, look through some of the papers in a Google Scholar search [1]). I'm not sure why people would use the term to refer to any essential torus in the knot complement; at the least, the imagery of the term no longer really makes sense then. --C S (Talk) 09:18, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Look at examples 3, 5 and 6 and tell me you don't see some swallowing and following. :) Rybu 09:49, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
