Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. —Stewpot (talk) 01:02, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

In the Foreign Relations sub-section of the Politics section, the "a" in "Spain claims Gibraltar, a Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom" should be changed to "an".

Thanks, will sort that now. Moons of Io (talk) 01:27, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Comment about the origin of the name Hispania

The article mentions that the Phoenicians referred to the region as Spania (meaning "Land of rabbits").But comparing to Hebrew sources, they most likely referred to the animal known in the Bible as "Shafan" -- hyrax. The mix up between these animals is common in Biblical translations, probably because both appear in the same verse in Leviticus 11:5-6. Spanish Armada / fall of empire in the late 16th century

Over the past few days, @[[User:Kusilini|Kusilini] has been trying to remove any form of mention of the decline of the Spanish Empire and any mention of the Spanish Armada. These are important times and dates in Spanish history. The peak and golden period of the Spanish Empire is well noted. There should also be a mention on what caused the decline of its empire, as the norm on any European country page which had a colonial empire. :That's not true, check my latest edits carefully. The Spanish Armada is mentioned and I have added, with numerous sources, when the decline of the Spanish Empire began.

Specifically, like the Spanish Golden Age, the decline began after the end of the Franco-Spanish War with the Treaty of the Pyrenees of 1659 in favor of a rising France under Louis XIV. This is supported and I have added numerous reliable sources.
What you are trying to add is that the decline occurred due to the failure of the Spanish Armada in 1588 with England and defeats in some battles with the Netherlands, which is rather false and unsourced, these did not change the status quo ante bellum nor did they start the decline of Spain. Kusilini (talk) 09:46, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

To facilitate reading, I am going to briefly explain it with the sources attached:

  • In the 18th century, the Spanish Empire reached its maximum extent (Source/s:[7]) and under the Bourbon dynasty, it carried out numerous reforms and modernized its armed forces to defend (mostly succesfully) its large colonies in the Americas (Source/s:[8])

Therefore, suggesting that the Spanish Empire fell or began its decline at the end of the 16th century after the Spanish Armada is, with all due respect, historically false, unsourced and more typical of old English nationalist propaganda (See: Spanish Black Legend)

Unless you provide reliable sources for the content you are trying to push, it will be removed for being unsourced, WP:POV-pushing and not realible according the WP:Neutrality. Kusilini (talk) 14:00, 6 February 2024 (UTC)( Blocked sockpuppet of JamesOredan, see investigation)
