I am the administrator of DPRK Studies, a blog focused on the social, political, and security issues of North Korea.

My experience in Korea has been both as an exchange student and later with the military. As an undergraduate in the 1990s I spent a year studying language, international relations, and oriental philosophy at a university in Seoul. Since then I have returned for several extended stays, including another semester while a graduate student (where my focus was North Korea). In 2005 I had the unique experience of interviewing North Korean defectors.
