Orphaned non-free image (File:Airmikisewlogo.svg)

You've uploaded File:Airmikisewlogo.svg, and indicated that it's used under Wikipedia's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Wikipedia policy requires that non-free images be either used or deleted, so if this image isn't used in an article in the next week, it will be deleted.

Image copyright problem with File:KSUWildcats logo.svg

Thanks for uploading File:KSUWildcats logo.svg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Flags

I've decided not to vectorize the two unfree flags (as an unfree SVG image would make the resolution infinite); however I did so some slight cleaning work on those two. Also, working with such low resolution images (namely the last two) makes it difficult to create a detailed image. Let me know what you think.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Air Algerielogo1.svg)

Thanks for uploading File:Air Algerielogo1.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Leduc Flag.png

A tag has been placed on File:Leduc Flag.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. License tagging for File:Connor Mah Signature.svg

USA_National_Forest_Lands.svg

There appears to be some problems with your map. Michigan, for example, is colored with the 1-3% color, but its NFS lands as a percentage of its total land area is close to 8%. Michigan has 2,872,833 acres of NFS lands, and 36,354,560 acres of total land area, which gives a percentage of NFS lands of 7.9%. Michigan actually has slightly more acres of NFS lands than Minnesota, but signficantly less acres of total land area, yet Minnesota is colored with the 5-10% color and Michigan is colored with the 1-3% color. Something doesn't jive. Phizzy 13:41, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Upon further analysis, I discovered a few other errors as well.
California, with 20.84% of land as NFS land, should be colored 20-30%. Currently colored 10-20%.
Michigan (as mentioned earlier), with 7.90% of NFS land, should be colored 5-10%. Currently colored 1-3%.
Wisconsin, with 4.40% of land as NFS land, should be colored 3-5%. Currently colored 1-3%.
South Dakota, with 4.15% of land as NFS land, should be colored 3-5%. Currently colored 5-10%.
North Carolina, with 4.03% of land as NFS land, should be colored 3-5%. Currently colored 5-10%.
Mississippi, with 3.91% of land as NFS land, should be colored 3-5%. Currently colored 5-10%.
Missouri, with 3.38% of land as NFS land, should be colored 3-5%. Currently colored 1-3%.
Florida, with 3.36% of land as NFS land, should be colored 3-5%. Currently colored 1-3%.
South Carolina, with 3.27% of land as NFS land, should be colored 3-5%. Currently colored 5-10%.
Kentucky, with 3.20% of land as NFS land, should be colored 3-5%. Currently colored 5-10%.
I also noticed that the 3-5% color was not used at all, which accounts for some of these errors. Phizzy 14:44, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Piers Morgan.jpg

A tag has been placed on File:Piers Morgan.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days.

Replaceable fair use Image:Piers Morgan.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Piers Morgan.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peripitus (Talk) 04:53, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

File:Jens Stoltenberg.jpg deleted

Hi Connormah, I've deleted this image as the licence (cc-by-sa-3.0) and the licence on the flickr page did not match, and as such claiming it under a free licence here violates image owners copyright. On flickr this image has a no derivatives licence which is not free to upload here. It is wise to be careful and open all flickr licences before uploading as the image page does not make it clear exactly which CC licence has been picked. - Peripitus (Talk) 04:01, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:AI Icon.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. FileBot (talk) 07:51, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Nonfree SVGs

There's only on Wikipedia because a bunch of people like yourself don't understand WP:NFCC. SVGs are not low resolution images as required by our image policy for nonfree content. Furthermore I don't appreciate people who don't do jack to actually develop articles enforcing their own styles on them. --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 14:51, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

I'll repeat my statements; go away, and learn how to properly license images. It's rather sad when applying boilerplate templates you can't even select the proper one. I'm done discussing this with you. --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 21:18, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
If it's not such a big deal, as you say, and you're not willing to articulate further, then I don't see why you continue to post your tracing. If you're not going to discuss further, then we're done? --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 01:26, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
So you're not going to discuss it any further, but you're going to revert? Talk about a waste of time (not to mention tendentious editing). At least I'm trying to improve an article in a meaningful way. Don't you have some made up wiki to attend to? --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 01:36, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm just inquiring as to what that is. Unfortunately, in the real world, people don't just disappear when you're tired of them. Either you continue the threaded discussion on the talk page, I start an RfC, I post to ANI, or you just leave the page for the people who actually have a vested interest in improving it rather than tracing logos. Choose your own adventure. --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 01:46, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Where specifically have they been discussed? I strongly disagree that the logo of the vast majority of buildings mees NFCC #8. blackngold29 14:51, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

It's not the format of the image (SVG or JPG or whatever else) it's that Mellon Arena's logo does not significantly increase the reader's knowledge of the building that Mellon Arena is. blackngold29 21:12, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Bungie dispute

Please see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Bungie dispute. —David Levy 01:45, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

I left a followup comment at Talk:Bungie. --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 00:41, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Although I have given into David's conduct regarding the SVG (which I regret now), I believe he should not get away with his uncivil conduct throughout this whole entire issue. --Connormah (talk) 20:40, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Please make it clear to David that you merely acquiesced to his demand due to frustration/duress (and regret doing so). He's claimed that the two of you arrived at a mutual agreement (which he cited as justification for unilaterally reverting my reinsertion of the SVG). —David Levy 21:15, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

He has archived the discussion. It seems as though he is avoiding answering your question. He has been so stubborn and uncivil throughout this dispute...can anything be done to teach him a lesson? Connormah (talk) 05:20, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

A desire to teach someone a lesson isn't the most constructive motive. However, David doesn't own the article, and as he has not presented any rationale for disallowing the SVG apart from his personal opposition to the practice (and has ignored repeated requests that he cite something unique or unusual about the article that justifies an exception), I see no reason not to revert to the SVG. —David Levy 05:51, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
You're right, but, I don't think he should have been acting the way he was...he is an admin, isn't he a one that people ask for help, and help enforce the policies? I still think the SVG should be used, but now that David thinks we have reached an agreement, which I regret now. Shall I initiate another discussion on his talk? Connormah (talk) 23:54, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
That would be a reasonable approach. And yes, I expect better behavior from an administrator than what David has exhibited. —David Levy 23:58, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Should I do anything about David's conduct towards me during the Bungie dispute, or just let it go? I was seriously considering an AN/I report of it, and I don't think it's too late for one. Not that he's been uncivil recently, but I don't like the idea of just letting it go. Connormah (talk) 22:42, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
My advice is to politely approach David with an offer to help work toward a long-term resolution of the underlying issue (by supporting his efforts to organize a community discussion). You needn't forget about his incivility, but you can provide an opportunity to move past it (and hopefully generate real progress). —David Levy 22:55, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

UofT Logo.svg

Hi, can you please fix the image File:UofT Logo.svg so that it incorporates safety margins around the logo equal to the width of the letter "T"? Also, only the logo background should be transparent and not the crest, which should be white. It should look something like File:UofT logo.png. Thanks. File source problem with File:YYC Logo.png

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:YYC Logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:36, 19 September 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Istcol (talk) 15:36, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Geza X wiki page

Hi i updated some information on the Geza X wikipedia page but it was all rejected. it is all verifiable and accurate. Although amusing, the 'legendary' status comes up every time my name is googled. Take a look, it's part of 70's history.

The rest of the information is commmon knowledge, backed up over 30 years of media and photos. I'm not trying to sell anything or overreach, just state the story briefly.

I obtained and edited the newer extracts from Allmusic, who has an info-sharing agreement with you, and gave the original author credit. I simply corrected inaccuracies and edited it to fit.

I read the information page and feel that this is well within the bounds of accuracy and good taste.

What's the problem? I wasn't logged in but am willing to set up an account if that is the only way to do this.

Or, if you were unaware of this, please put it back up. I will work with you if there is something still wrong according to your policies.

Geza X

Connormah,

I see. Then I will remove the word 'legendary', even though it comes up in all google searches and magazine articles. I had a feeling that might freak someone out ;)

Give me a minute to change it.

Geza

Connormah,

I deleted the word 'legendary'. I understand, neutral is better. There are a lot of self-proclaimed legends.

Nice addition of his signature. Thank you. Regards, MarmadukePercy (talk) 03:52, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

You're most welcome. It is these 'signature' touches, if you'll pardon the pun, that make this site take flight. Thank you again for your contribution. Best regards, MarmadukePercy (talk) 04:05, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Gen. Benjamin Lincoln thanks you for your contribution. :-) MarmadukePercy (talk) 04:23, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
In that you're interested in historic signatures, I thought you'd enjoy seeing this record from the Suffolk County, Massachusetts, files of the signatures of various Native Americans to a deed of June 1661. [2] Regards, MarmadukePercy (talk) 00:50, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Most of them came from the EPL's website, here. Let me know if you have any other questions. Steve Smith (talk) 05:38, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

I have no experience with finding signatures, but it looks like there might be something to be found here if you're willing to sift through it. There may also be something here, though I'm less hopeful on that. Steve Smith (talk) 20:29, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

William III’s signature

Hi Connormah! I noticed you added a photo of the signature of William III. Only the file name indicates that it it is the signature of William II. Was this addition made in error, or was the file incorrectly named? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Wm II’s, given his signature must be hard to come by. In any event, I undid the edit for now, not knowing which was the error. If you can get the signature of Wm III, it would be a great addition to the article! Thanks! — SpikeToronto 00:44, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Apologies, the file name was a typo. It is, indeed William III's, according to the main image I traced off of. Connormah (talk) 05:54, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Great! Change the file name and put it back in. It’s a wonderful addition. I love seeing signatures of famous and/or great personages. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 06:04, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Signature of explorer Christopher Levett

Hey, having gone off on the signature jag, you got me thinking. Would there be a way to extract the signature of this fellow, an early English explorer of New England? His signature is on this page from google books on the history of Plymouth Plantation. [3] Thanks again. Regards, MarmadukePercy (talk) 05:57, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I'd be more than happy to do it, but I haven't been able to find it in the book. Could you possibly screen capture it for me, and upload it here? Thanks. Connormah (talk) 16:54, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks for your message. Here's another google book page with six or more better images of Levett's signature (scroll down for other images of his signature). [4] I'll try to do a screen capture, but fair warning: I'm a techno-klutz. ;-) Best, MarmadukePercy (talk) 18:36, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
I actually can;t see it, it leads me to a page with a list. Connormah (talk) 18:39, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for letting me know. I think I've figured out the screen capture thing, as I just uploaded an image to the Christopher Levett page. I'll try to capture his signature next. MarmadukePercy (talk) 20:28, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Hey, I uploaded the signature to Commons @ File:Christopher_Levett_signature.jpg. I hope this is helpful. Thanks! MarmadukePercy (talk) 04:37, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
Here you are: . I've edited it into the article. Connormah (talk) 23:48, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
MarmadukePercy, I was wondering if you could help me with something? I'm trying desperately hard to find the signature of explorer Marco Polo, but with no luck. I really want to get his up, but I've spent way too much time looking. I was wondering if you could try? Thanks in advance. Connormah (talk) 23:51, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
The Graphic Designer's Barnstar
Will look for Polo, but in the meantime thanks for Levett. MarmadukePercy (talk) 00:12, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
Am still searching for Polo (it's a tough one), but I did find this that I thought you'd enjoy: the signature of English sculptor Grinling Gibbons, signed in 1705 when he was warden of the Worshipful Company of Drapers, London. Hard to find these little scraps! [5] MarmadukePercy (talk) 10:46, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
If you can't find Polo, that's fine. I apologize for asking you so much, but could you possibly look for Martin Frobisher, and Alexander Mackenzie (explorer), and possible John Cabot?
I'll have a look and let you know what I find. Regards, MarmadukePercy (talk) 16:58, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
