Second member of MUD task force, yay

You da man. :) —chaos5023 (talk) 21:46, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Adding DVW references all over the place

At the risk of causing you to have a talk page that consists entirely of me repeatedly saying "you go": you go! —chaos5023 (talk) 18:30, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

I'm still a little unsure about punctuation and such, so thanks for going over my additions. I really need to buy more books though! KaVir (talk) 18:46, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Sure. Stuff like punctuation vis refs is covered in WP:MOS, but that's a teal deer to the point where picking it up as one goes along seems preferable to me. More books are always good, and if you get a lead on anything decent that isn't already in Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/MUD#Print_sources, please let me know. —chaos5023 (talk) 19:07, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

ANI Notice

Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.   — Jess· Δ 13:07, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi KaVir. It's been a while. I'm letting you know about the thread on ANI, since you were involved in the original discussion. There is probably no need to comment there. However, I will ask that you read over WP:CANVASS, and not do that in the future. We have a pretty good process here, on site, for advertising AfDs and ensuring that quality articles get kept. Canvassing off-site just guarantees that there's additional drama, and that the AfD might be relisted or rerun. Thanks.   — Jess· Δ 13:07, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
WP:CANVASS states that "In general, it is perfectly acceptable to notify other editors of ongoing discussions, provided that it is done with the intent to improve the quality of the discussion by broadening participation to more fully achieve consensus". The post I made on Top Mud Site stated only "For those interested in the subject, the "MUD trees" article has now been nominated for deletion:" (followed by a link to the nomination). While some of the replies were certainly hostile, I thought the wording of my original post was very neutral. Of the responses to the nomination, all were from existing editors - except for one anonymous respondant who proposed "delete" KaVir (talk) 13:58, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, but your post was off-site, on a forum for MUDs. The intent of the post was obviously to attract people who were sympathetic to having increased coverage of MUDs on wikipedia. Read the "appropriate notification" and "inappropriate notification" sections of WP:CANVASS, particularly: "Contacting users off-wiki (by e-mail or IRC, for example) to persuade them to join in discussions." It's no big deal now; wikipedia operates without any firm rules or "newbie school", as it were, so I'm sure you weren't aware of our policy regarding canvassing. I'm letting you know now because, in the long run, canvassing like that doesn't help preserve articles. It often makes preserving them harder, in fact, because editors perceive a bias in the !voting. Anyway, if you need any help with the subject here on wikipedia, feel free to drop by my talk page and ask. I cleaned up a few articles I saw. Unfortunately, it looks like our coverage of MUDs isn't very good.   — Jess· Δ 14:09, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
The text "Contacting users off-wiki (by e-mail or IRC, for example) to persuade them to join in discussions" is followed by the comment "(unless there is a specific reason not to use talk pages)". I didn't know their Wikipedia names (and therefore their talk pages), except for Chaos5023 (who I did actually contact on his talk page). I guess we need a way to contact each other on Wikipedia. KaVir (talk) 14:36, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
That text is a fairly narrow exception; for example, if there is something sensitive being discussed and so you contacted a user privately (and directly). Contacting a whole community or forum does fall afoul of CANVASS, I'm afraid. Again, it's really no big deal. Don't worry about it. I'm just letting you know for future reference. Luckily, you have their usernames now so you can find their talk pages, or post to the MUD wikiproject (if there are active users there). Anyway, it was good running into you again. See you around :)   — Jess· Δ 15:09, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
I've made another post to Top Mud Sites inviting any Wikipedia editors there to watch and/or comment on my talk page here if they're interested in being involved in future discussions about mud-related articles. KaVir (talk) 15:14, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
Sounds good. That should be fine, as long as you're not pulling them into a specific discussion involving a !vote. The more editors here, the better. Thanks!   — Jess· Δ 15:44, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

You've been here for a while, but never welcomed... Welcome!

Mud task force

How does one join the MUD task force? I am interested, but unable to figure out how this process works. It does not help that the wiki search function is completely useless; google at least gives me the correct pages, but I still have no idea what to do. Flying hazard (talk) 17:15, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

If you're talking about the MUD wikiproject (Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/MUD), all you need to do is sign your name below the "Members" section. So, click on "edit" at the top right of the section, and put in *~~~~ on a new line. Wikiprojects are pretty informal, so it's just a matter of listing yourself as involved. Then start editing :)   — Jess· Δ 17:35, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Conflict of interest

Hello. You have an obvious conflict of interest with the article GodWars, considering that GodWars is your product as said on the first line, and that your biographic article Richard Woolcock redirects there. You should thus limit yourself to non-controversial edits. This includes only adding any new text if there is is clear consensus on the talk page. Also, please note that I'm not trying to antagonize you, I'm only trying to make the MUD articles look more professional. Thank you. EternalFlare (talk) 10:41, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

I have added no new content other than supporting sources and sufficient associated text to cover those sources (which I've done for many other mud-related articles as well). It is clear from your contribution history that you also have a conflict of interest - your very first contribution on Wikipedia (only 3 days ago) was a complaint about me (resulting in the ANI Notice section above), and it's clear from your behaviour that you're already an experienced Wikipedia user. While you've modified other articles as well, particularly articles I've worked on, you've stripped the GodWars article down to a stub and have even removed secondary and tertiary sources. In your first contribution you complained about people planning to delete articles worked on by a certain contributor as "revenge" - you do realise that it was NOT me who said that, don't you? KaVir (talk) 12:18, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
The ANI notice wasn't a personal complaint about you, but a report about a WP:MEAT violation. In fact, I didn't even mention your name in the notice (or anybody else's name) which should indicate that I'm not being personal. I will give you an award to show my good intentions. Also, I'm not trying to follow your edits, we both edit MUD articles because we are members of the MUD task force. I hope you understand. Thank you. EternalFlare (talk) 14:42, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
