You will need to submit anything you are claiming and then the bot will award the points. Submissions should really be made within 10 days of being earned. We are nearly at the end of Round 1 and then points will be set back to zero for the start of Round 2. As long as you have submitted one or two claims, you should get through to the next round. You can see the rules here. The GA will be eligible for points this round, but not during next round because it was passed as a GA in this round. The two DYKs do not qualify for points in the 2017 WikiCup because you worked on them both and nominated them for DYK during 2016. The rule in this instance states: "Content must have been worked on and nominated during the competition." I have adjusted your submissions to reflect this. Mhhossein, you recently posted directly to this page to add a note to one of your nominations. However, you shouldn't edit this page directly. I'm really quite perplexed as to why you added {{refimprove}} to Kill Ratio in this edit. There are no unsourced statements in the article. If you think there's something that needs a citation, you could tag it with {{fact}}, but, like I said, everything is already sourced. Per MOS:FILM, plot summaries do not need citations; maybe you were confused about this? G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:

• Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
• Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
• 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
• Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.

The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.

So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

I regret that your new GA, Demolition of al-Baqi, does not qualify for points in this year's WikiCup. This is because you did not do the necessary substantial work on the article in 2017 before you nominated it for GAN on 22 February. In fact you did no work on it at all during that period. The relevant rule states: "All reviewed content must have been worked on significantly by you during the competition" Please see this page where the issue was discussed by another judge with another competitor. Indeed, you made changes as a result of comments made by the reviewer but you did no work in 2017 before you nominated the article at GAN, which is the requirement. Sturmvogel 66 explains this well in the link I provided above. It is the same with DYK, if you created an article or expanded it five-fold in 2016 and nominated it for DYK at the beginning of 2017, it would not be eligible for points in the 2017 WikiCup. @Cwmhiraeth: I reviewed the GA notification and can confirm that Mhhossein did significant amount of work as part of the GA review. Disclosure: I'm the other contestant whose points got docked by another judge in this page (linked by Cwmhiraeth above). As I explained to the judge in my talk page, I think it's unfair to introduce a new rule ("Work done after nomination don't count") midway through the competition, and then apply it retroactively after competitors did their work. The original rule only asks that the work be done during the competition, and doesn't say anything about whether the work is done before or after GAN/FAC/etc. Please reconsider these decisions. • The other judge who I consulted confirms my view on this matter. To score points in the WikiCup, the first stage is that during the contest, an article has to be created, expanded, improved or substantially worked on before it is nominated for review. • Peacemaker67 took third place with two FAs, one GA and seven GARs, mostly on naval vessels or military personnel, scoring 543 points.
• Other contestants who scored over 400 points were Freikorp, Carbrera, and Czar. Of course all these points are now wiped out and the 32 remaining contestants start again from zero in round 3.

Vivvt submitted the largest number of DYKs (30), and MBlaze Lightning achieved 13 articles at ITN. Carbrera claimed for 11 GAs and Argento Surfer performed the most GARs, having reviewed 11. So far we have achieved 38 featured articles and a splendid 132 good articles. Commendably, 279 GARs have been achieved so far, more than double the number of GAs.

So, on to the third round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

The third round of the competition has finished in a flurry of last minute activity, with 288 points being required to qualify for round 4. It was a hotly competitive round with all but four of the contestants exceeding the 106 points that was necessary to proceed to round 4 last year. Coemgenus and Freikorp tied on 288, and both have been allowed to proceed, so round 4 now has one pool of eight competitors and one of nine.

Round 3 saw the achievement of a 26-topic Featured topic by MPJ-DK as well as 5 featured lists and 13 featured articles. PanagiotisZois and SounderBruce achieved their first ever featured articles. Carbrera led the GA score with 10, Tachs achieved 17 DYKs and MBlaze Lightning 10 In the news items. There were 167 DYKs, 93 GARs and 82 GAs overall, this last figure being higher than the number of GAs in round 2, when twice as many people were taking part. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.

As we start round 4, we say goodbye to the fifteen or so competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them (some people have fallen foul of this rule and the points have been removed).

In 2016, we had Eid al-Ghadeer listed September 20 for Iran/Iraq, and September 21 for Shia Islam in general. Is there a reason for the separate dates? This is a long-known bot error that we haven't been able to get fixed: if there was a prior GA failure, the bot picks up on that, rather than the new GA listing. Never fear; the article did pass. (Note: if you make an error in a ping, you can't just fix it—the ping only happens when there's a brand new sig along with it. You can't edit an earlier sig. Just add a new line with a ping and a sig if you want it to go through. (I only happened to see this because I was scanning through my watchlist and saw my name.) Hello, Mhhossein – I don't know if you have Bektashi Order on your watch list, but I wonder if you could take a look at it. I was looking at the latest edit to the article. Since I work on a small laptop, I keep my screen at resolution 125% or 110%, and at 125%, the infoboxes and other things at the top of the article are all superimposed. I wonder if changing an image size to 1000px had anything to do with it. I had never seen any image in any WP article set to 1000px. I even wonder if 882px, the size it was before, isn't also too large. I wonder if there aren't some layout issues throughout the article. Toward the end it says "Four doors forty stending". Do you think that last word should be "standing"? Even if it should be "standing", it still doesn't make a lot of sense. Thank you for your thanks, Mhhossein. I was looking at the Four Doors article in other languages and it seems that the odd translation comes from the Turkish expression Dört Kapı, Kırk Makam. In English it means "four doors, forty steps/stations/states/levels". O.K. but "stations" by itself doesn't make much sense, either. I see in Four Doors that the word "paths" is used in the body of the article, and "spiritual stations" is used in the caption in the infobox. The word "paths" suggests separate ways "to Allah". The diagram in the infobox and the phrase "spiritual stations" suggest successive steps, or stations, where one must go through one before going on to the next, etc. Since I don't know anything about the religion, I cannot choose the best word. And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. With 53 contestants qualifying, the groups for round 2 are slightly smaller than usual, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining users.

Our top scorers in round 1 were:

• Aoba47 led the field with a featured article, 8 good articles and 42 GARs, giving a total of 666 points.
• FrB.TG , a WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points, gained from a featured article and masses of bonus points.
• Ssven2, another WikiCup newcomer, was in third place with 403 points, garnered from a featured article, a featured list, a good article and twelve GARs.
• Ceranthor, Numerounovedant, Carbrera, Farang Rak Tham and Cartoon network freak all had over 200 points, but like all the other contestants, now have to start again from scratch. A good achievement was the 193 GARs performed by WikiCup contestants, comparing very favourably with the 54 GAs they achieved.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. Thanks for reminding me, but note that the "original author provision in ARBPIA" prohibits the users from reverting other's reverts. I did not revert your reverts, rather I reverted your edits. If you consider this and this as reverts, then you've already made 2 reverts, violating the remedy before me.

As for the edits; You need just to see the "Synopsis" section where the objected portion is explained using concrete sources such as NYTimes. Also NYTimes says that Bergman was accused of "aggravated espionage" by IDF, so there's not BLP/BLPCRIME issue and we can make proper attributions to stand on the safer side. Per wP:3RR (which 1rr modifies) "A series of consecutive saved revert edits by one user with no intervening edits by another user counts as one revert.". My two edits were consecutive, making them one revert.

Regarding BLPCRIME - this getting sourced (and not in a good manner - to a book review lacking context) does not fully alleviate BCRIME concerns. This is also an EXCEPTIONAL claim (particularly since no criminal investigation or trial was held for Bergman to the best of my knowledge - and the text alleges a very serious charge).

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
• updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.

It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.

The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

Let's do this.

Yes, I believe that if the !votes keep coming in the way they have been, there is no danger of mass deletion. No new consensus has been formed in the RfC, but it is not over yet. I figured that getting the WikiProject up and running again could further help strengthen our already strong position in the RfC. And prevent future RfCs by improving the portals to up-to-date status.

Thank you for your offer to help. The first thing you can do is sign up as a volunteer, so I know who to send updates and task suggestions to. While you are there, take your time, and peruse the tasks on the Project page, and the threads on the talk page. The main theme is to upgrade, and automate whatever we can. For example, a selective transclusion template for use in intro sections could really help a lot, by allowing editors to specify an excerpt from an article. As transclusion always displays the current version from the article, the excerpts would never grow stale.

One thing I'd like everyone to chip in with is updating the main list of portals by adding the missing entries which are listed on its talk page (instructions are included there).

Well, this WikiProject looks like it will be a fun and interesting collaboration. I look forward to working with you.

The RfC has ended

The RfC was closed May 11th, and a closing statement was posted May 12th which says "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time."

Ongoing tasks

Some major activities that we are in the middle of include:

• Adding the missing existing portals to the main portals list at Portal:Contents/Portals. Instructions are on the talk page. There are about 125 portals left to be processed. (There were 400). Keep up the good work!
• Development discussions on how to migrate the subpages to the base pages. There are around 150,000 subpages in portal space, associated with the various sections on a typical portal. We are trying to obsolete them section type by section type. Currently, we're working on obsoleting the intro subpages and the "selected articles" subpages. Please join in.

Other tasks

• The list of portals not ready to be listed on the main list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals#These are not listed yet (scroll down to see them - they are marked Not ready). They are incomplete. If you want a specific portal to work on, please consider choosing one from that list.
• Over the years, some incomplete portals (portals under construction) got added to Portal:Contents/Portals. Therefore, every portal listed there needs to be inspected, and any that are incomplete should be removed from that list and added to the not ready list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals#These are not listed yet (scroll down to see it). On Portal:Contents/Portals, I'm already almost done inspecting the portals in the culture section, and so you can skip those. The types of things to look for are empty sections (most will have a redlinked subpage), lack of "selected" sections, portal stubs with just an intro and end sections, and very poor layout (like seriously unbalanced columns).

During his work on portals, Broter found a quote randomizer. It is {{Random quotation}}.

Trailblazer: approaching the one-page portal

Broter has transformed the Portal:Community of Christ so it is comprised of only 3 pages in portal space: the base page, its box-header subpage, and its box-footer subpage. Its other other subpages are now obsolete and are waiting for deletion. Nice job, Broter!

Deletion discussion survivors

Thank you to those who have participated in portal deletion discussions. There are still some editors out there who despise portals, and this comes across in their argumentation style. Wow. Such negativity. But, there is some good news...

• Portal:Quidditch survived its 2nd deletion nomination
• Portal:Prehistory of Antarctica did the same

Current deletion discussions are posted on our WikiProject page.

Portal space clean up

While portal detractors are trying to get rid of portals via MfD, we have deleted many of them via speedy deletion (per {{Db-p1}} or {{Db-p2}}). Essentially, they were bare skeletons, with maybe a little meat on them. The plus here is that speedy deletion is without prejudice to re-creating the portals. They can easily be restarted from scratch without getting approval, or be undeleted by request by someone willing to work on them. We have kept track of these, for when someone wants to rebuild them. They are listed at Portal talk:Contents/Portals#These are not listed yet.

We are also removing subpages, the functions of which have been migrated to portal base pages. To see which ones have been removed, look for the redlinks in our watchlist.

There is also an MfD concerning some of these at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Redundant subpages of the Cornwall portal.

For subpages that need to be deleted, you can conveniently place this speedy deletion template at the top of each of them:

{{Db-g6|rationale=of subpage clean up – this subpage's function has been migrated to the portal base page and is no longer needed}}

Then an admin will come along and delete them.

Please help list the unlisted portals!

There are still 100 existing portals not yet presented on the main portal list at Portal:Contents/Portals. There were 400, so we've come a long way. Thank you! But we are not done yet...

Please list a couple of them. Every little bit helps. If each member of this project listed one more, it would almost all be done. Many hands make light work.

New feature: Picture slideshow

Evad37 has figured out a way to let the user flip through pictures without purging the page. Purging is awkward because there is an intermediary confirmation screen that you have to click on "yes". In the new picture slideshow section, all you have to do is click on the > to go to the next picture or < to instantly show the previous feature. The feature also shuffles the pictures when the page is initiated, so that they are shown in a different order each time the user visits the page (or purges it).

It is featured in Portal:Sacramento, California. Check it out to the right.

Keep in mind that the feature is a beta version. Please share your comments on how to refine this feature, at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Portals#Refining the Picture slideshow.

The one-page portal has been achieved

We now have a one-page portal design. It isn't fully automated, nor is it even fully semi-automated, as there are still some manually filled-in areas. But it no longer requires any subpages in portal space, and that is a huge improvement. For example, Portal:Sacramento, California utilizes the one-page design concept. While is employs heavy use of templates, it does not have any subpages of its own.

I commend you for your teamwork

This is the most cooperative team I've ever seen. With a strong spirit of working together to get an important job done. Kudos to you.

The third round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round had at least 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

• Courcelles, a first time contestant, with 1756 points, a tally built largely on 27 GAs related to the Olympics
• Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three GAs on natural history and astronomy topics
• SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with a variety of submissions related to transport in the state of Washington

Contestants managed 7 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 120 good articles, 1 good topic, 124 DYK entries, 15 ITN entries, and 132 good article reviews. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 458 GA reviews, in comparison to 244 good articles submitted for review and promoted. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process; several submissions, particularly in abstruse or technical areas, have needed additional work to make them completely verifiable.

On 11 July 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Death of Mustafa Tamimi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Israel Defense Forces exonerated the soldier who killed Mustafa Tamimi with a tear-gas canister (incident pictured), saying the soldier had not seen "any people in the line of fire"? Hello Mhhossein. Regarding this comment. Enforcement of WP:SCW isn't possible at AE because that is a community sanction. Someone applied the banner Template:SCW&ISIL sanctions to the article talk page. The same argument also applies to any 1RR violations that the person may have committed, if the general sanctions were used to apply a 1RR to the article. The only thing anyone can validly ask about at AE is for enforcement of ARBPIA or other sanctions imposed by the Arbitration Committee itself. EdJohnston (talk) 15:52, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

I don't see how we can include this on Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/August 26 because the article says the date might have been 2 Dhu al-Hijjah or near the end of the month. Also, there are a couple of other problems that I noted in the article. —howcheng {chat} 22:12, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

I noticed over at the Portals WikiProject that you have or use AWB (or JWB).

There are some tasks that have turned up that are perfect for AWB.

We have many new portals, and they need:

1. To have a {{Portal}} template placed in the See also section on the corresponding root article, outline article, and index article.
2. A {{Portal}} template placed on the corresponding category page.
3. A link placed at the end (in the "bottom" section) on the corresponding navigation template. For an example, see Template:Birds.

The new portals can be found on Category:Single-page portals along with some revamped ones. You'll need to use the skip feature of AWB.

Bug hunt!

As you know, portals are now supported by a number of new templates, which are in turn supported by some new Lua modules.

Those templates and modules are being put to the test, in the new portals that have been created since this WikiProject rebooted, plus a number of existing portals that have been revamped.

The new portals, and revamped ones, can be found at Category:Single-page portals.

Please browse the new portals at your leisure, and report any and all problems that you spot. Post bug and other portal problem reports at WT:WPPORTD. Please report bugs, quirks, awkward aspects, or anything weird or off that you notice. Compliments and suggestions are also welcome. :)

When you report a bug, please indicate the portal's name, the section that the problem appeared in, and the name of the article appearing (first) in the section with the problem. Most problems will likely be encountered in the Selected general articles" section, due to quirks in a displayed article's wikicode that the lua modules don't handle yet. Your help in spotting those is of utmost value. Thank you.

Don't delete portal subpages just yet

For portals that have been converted to the single-page design, we are not deleting their subpages at this time, because we are working on ways to harvest the data from those pages. For example, the Selected picture subpages include filenames and captions that would be valuable for the image slideshows. Please don't delete portal subpages, for now. They'll be slated for d-batch speedy deletion after harvesting. Thank you.

Development notes

We are currently testing a feature added to {{Transclude files as random slideshow}} that allows it to accept both sourcepages and filenames. Courtesy of Evad37. This will pave the way for harvesting files and their captions from portal subpages, for use in image slideshows.

We need your help

The bulk of the work is being done by a handful of editors. But we can't do it all. We need help with spotting bugs, refining the search parameters in new/revamped portals (in the "Did you know..." and "In the news" sections), adding images to slideshows for a broader selection (they default to showing the images on the root article page but are capable of showing so much more), adding panoramic pictures at the top of the intro section of region portals (cities, counties, states, provinces, countries, continents, and other regions), to name but a few task types.

It is rewarding to be a part of the growing portal phenomenon. And you get to see its expansion and refinement up close.
