Orphaned fair use image (Image:Carpenters LOGO.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Carpenters LOGO.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:04, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Unfairly Blocked
{{Carpenters-song-stub}}
Hi - a stub template or category which you created has been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 00:01, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use image use, yet again
Over and over and over again I've had to remove the copyrighted, fair use image Image:Carpenters LOGO.png. I know that via another account you were informed of the policy regarding this issue. Yet, you continue to violate it. Today, I come across yet another usage in violation that you created just today [1]. Our policy on fair use images used in this manner is clear; you may NOT use them on templates. See WP:NFCC item #9. If you insist on continuing to willfully violate this policy, I will recommend you be blocked. Please, stop. If you have questions about this I'd be happy to answer. But, continuing to willfully violate the policy is unacceptable. --Durin 12:29, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know that I'm making these mistakes. I don't quite understand why uploading a logo is even a problem. Karen Carpenter's Biggest Fan 18:20, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Uploading a logo isn't a problem in and of itself. Copyrighted works, such as logos, can be used on Wikipedia. However, such usages must follow our policies at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. One of the requirements there is that such a work can only be used on actual articles. It may not be used on templates, such as you've been attempting to do. Other questions? I'm happy to answer. --Durin 19:05, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. What other types of images are like logos (cannot be used in templates; only articles)? Karen Carpenter's Biggest Fan 20:30, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Anything marked with a licensing tag that has "fair use" on it somewhere is likely not usable. --Durin 20:28, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- So, will it be okay if I just stop adding the logo to other things (besides the band and album page)? Karen Carpenter's Biggest Fan 20:30, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, you can stop adding the logo. --Durin 20:40, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. Sorry for the problems I caused. Karen Carpenter's Biggest Fan 20:41, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, you can stop adding the logo. --Durin 20:40, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Haber (Spanish verb)
I've nominated Haber (Spanish verb), an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Haber (Spanish verb) satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Haber (Spanish verb) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Haber (Spanish verb) during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. KJS77 23:36, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Solitaire.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Solitaire.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Bleh999 05:57, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Canta.JPG)
Thanks for uploading Image:Canta.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 18:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Hawaiʻi WikiProject Newsletter - Issue VIII - November 2008
| |
---|---|
Why did the prehistoric Polynesians sail to Hawaiʻi? Perhaps these voyages were undertaken for adventure, out of cultural pride, or even for raiding and conquest, trading goods, or forced exile. We will never know the reasons why, but we can investigate how it was achieved. Various ideas have been proposed, with two central hypotheses emerging to explain Polynesian voyaging to Hawaiʻi: either it was accidental or it was intentional. Hawaiian oral tradition records tales of ancient navigators traveling to and from Tahiti, providing a basis for intentional voyaging. David Malo, a 19th-century Native Hawaiian historian, documented genealogical chants telling the story of Moʻikeha, who voyaged back and forth between Hawaiʻi and Kahiki. Native Hawaiians believe these chants have a historical basis and to some extent recount the history of their culture. To test the intentional voyaging hypothesis, Ben Finney, Tommy Holmes, and Herb Kawainui Kane of the Polynesian Voyaging Society built a modern, full-scale replica of a waʻa kaulua, a Polynesian double-hulled voyaging canoe. The 20-meter canoe was named Hōkūleʻa, the "Star of Gladness", deriving its name from Arcturus, the guiding star of Hawaiian navigators. In 1976, a crew of 17 sailed 2,500 miles (4,020 km) from Maui to Tahiti in approximately 31 days, guided only by the traditional, instrumentless wayfinding techniques of Micronesian navigator Mau Piailug. Since her original voyage, Hōkūleʻa has completed at least nine more voyages to Micronesia, Polynesia, Japan, Canada, and the United States. In 2007, Hawaiian oral histories found additional support when ancient basalt adzes used for constructing canoes in the Tuamotu Archipelago were traced to the Hawaiian island of Kahoʻolawe. The westernmost point of the island of Kahoʻolawe is known as the Lae O Kealaikahiki (Point of the Pathway to Tahiti). This area is thought to have been a ceremonial launching site in the 13th century for voyages between Hawaiʻi and Tahiti.
Hōkūleʻa capsized in 1978 southwest of the Island of Molokaʻi. Crew member Eddie Aikau, a Native Hawaiian champion lifeguard and surfer, tried to paddle a surfboard to the island of Lānaʻi to find help and save his crew. The crew was later rescued, but Aikau was never seen again. Because of his sacrifice, Aikau is considered one of Hawaii's greatest contemporary heroes, and his selfless act of courage is often portrayed as a symbol of the "Aloha spirit". A list of open tasks and a proposed outline for expansion can be found on Talk:Hokulea/temp. Everyone is welcome to make suggestions and help improve the article.
The Obento Musubi has begun updating both the invite and welcome templates. The templates have been moved into template space with shorter names. To use them, simply type {{Hawaii invite}} on the talk page of an editor who might want to join the project, or {{Hawaii welcome}} on the talk page of a new member. These templates are one essential tool for recruiting new members, so please make use of them in coordination with either your personal watchlist or in combination with the project watchlist. If you see a non-member making good edits to multiple Hawaii-related articles, try to combine the template with a personal message on their talk page inviting them to join the project.
The Obento Musubi has also been working on redesigning the project template, but for now, this work is mostly confined to Template:WPHawaii/sandbox. If you run across a strange looking template on the talk page, this is due to experimentation on the live template which in hindsight, was a mistake. (To fix it, simply make a null edit: click edit this page and then click save page without making any changes to the talk page. Leave the edit summary blank.) It is unclear how much the template should deviate from standards currently in use. Generally, project templates should appear uniform in design, although many projects have added project-specific icons for their task forces and work groups. The template still needs a B-Class checklist and FL-Class assessment criteria. |
Part three of an extended interview with Newsletter founder The Obento Musubi (see part one and two). What should we do with the list of English words of Hawaiian origin? Did you read the discussion?
Looking ahead at the topic of December's newsletter, the Hawaiian plate lunch is a microcosm of the ethnic diversity of Hawaiʻi. The article should investigate the intertwining history of foreign immigration, life on the plantation, and even its culinary contributions to Hawaiian Pidgin. Have you read Rachel Laudan's The Food of Paradise?
Trivia expert Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) has commented on the procedure for dealing with trivia sections on the project. Please take a moment to read his recommendations. Three simple steps are required to deal with trivia sections:
In October, WolterBot identified 16 articles with trivia sections. As of November, 11 articles remain tagged.
Disputes are on the rise, with at least 25 current disputes. Questions have also been raised about new additions to Bernice P. Bishop Museum and Falls of Clyde due to recent accusations against the Museum in the media. Chrisrus has also expressed concerns with the accuracy and scope of List of Native Hawaiians. Visit the talk pages of these articles to contribute to the discussion.

Non-free images
Hi. Please immediately stop uploading nonfree promotional images to Wikipedia. As you have clearly agreed to, the policy states that no needlessly nonfree images are allowed, and there's nothing more needless than a mass produced commercial product. Additionally, you wrote the captions to be explicitly promotional only to the latest models. Wikipedia is not Apple's PR project or outsourced web hosting WP:WEBHOST. You are clearly agreeing to policies that you are violating, and typing in excuses for why you're violating them. Even if Wikipedia's image upload page wasn't a giant explicit barrier to stop exactly what you're doing, you shall not then place the burden upon the public to research and correct your mistakes as you proceed to make countless of them. In one of your edits, you said basically that this is definitely fair use, unless it's not. It's completely your responsibility to research law and policy before making a public site responsible for your mistakes. So now it's your responsibility to undo all of your edits, and delete all of those images. I already wasted a lot of time doing so. Thanks. — Smuckola(talk) 06:47, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Smuckola (talk · contribs), I seem to remember you commented that there was good faith, which there was. I understand your frustration, and if you check my contributions, I stopped uploading content once I saw you reverted my edits on iMac. I'm hoping you reconsider your tone, lest you become one of the many Wikipedians whose attitude has been nothing but sour to me. I will gladly work with you, but some decorum is in order. The Obento Musubi (talk · contribs) 08:10, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- As far as "countless" goes, I uploaded seven images. I'm fine with all seven of them being deleted. That being said, I object to you calling the press images being "Apple's PR project". I'm simply trying to upload images that look better than a photograph or a lookalike vector. Please feel free to disagree and I'll agree to disagree. Delete the seven images if you so wish. I will not contest them. Cheers, The Obento Musubi (talk · contribs) 08:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- No, you know that you were unequivocally wrong, and it is your task to correct. There is no disagreeing with me or anyone else personally, about unequivocal policy. That's just dissembling. The images must be deleted and the edits undone, so please do that now. — Smuckola(talk) 09:15, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for presumptuously telling me what I know and don't know. Unless your demeanor changes, I refuse to engage with you further. Peace. The Obento Musubi (talk · contribs) 09:37, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Changing of proper date system to nonsense date system
Please refrain from changing the proper method of indicating years to a nonsense one please. Thank you. Tharthandorf Aquanashi (talk) 12:51, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- The fact that you think "anno Domini" and "before Christ" are proper and "common era" and "before common era" are nonsensical tells me enough about you to know that you shall opt to uphold religious dogma over secularism and therefore we won't see eye-to-eye on this. I personally don't care enough to start anything over it, so I'm going to choose not to be affected by your dismissive language. The Obento Musubi (talk · contribs) 21:13, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- The days of the week are named after pagan Germanic deities. Now, I don't believe in Tue, Woden, Thor or the like but I still call the days of the week names that mean the days of those pagan deities.
- You need to calm down and stop whining about things carrying names that are implicative of a religion just because you aren't religious/you don't follow that religion. The world doesn't revolve around you. You don't get to change things just because you don't like them. Tharthandorf Aquanashi (talk) 22:14, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- I never said that AD, BC, or the days of the week were "nonsense". Implying religion, as in the days of the week, is not the same as explicitly promoting one religion over any other religion or non-religion. (i.e. Anno Domini and Before Christ.) CE and BCE have been widely accepted and implemented. The same can't be said of any alternative names for the days of the week. Now, I'd appreciate it if you would stop projecting judgment onto me by telling me what I am or am not. I don't see any reason to continue this back-and-forth any further since I haven't chosen to challenge the reversion of my edit, nor do I plan to. I have more important things to work on. The Obento Musubi (talk · contribs) 23:43, 22 March 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think you're really being fair here. The "common era"/"before common era" system isn't nonsense, and it isn't a calendar system The Obento Musubi made up off the top of his head; it's widely used in scholarly circles, and Wikipedia's own style guide says that both Common Era and "BC/AD" conventions can be appropriate for referring to dates. (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Dates_and_numbers#Era_style) That same style guide also says that you should have a specific reason to change from one system to another—and that you should get consensus on a talk page before actually making the change—but that's beside the point, and it doesn't justify treating another user with disrespect. 96.241.85.240 (talk) 05:18, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Come Together-Something (single cover).jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Come Together-Something (single cover).jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 11:32, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Wiki Loves Pride 2016
As a participant of WikiProject LGBT studies, you are invited to participate in the third annual Wiki Loves Pride campaign, which runs through the month of June. The purpose of the campaign is to create and improve content related to LGBT culture and history. How can you help?
- Create or improve LGBT-related Wikipedia pages and showcase the results of your work here
- Document local LGBT culture and history by taking pictures at pride events and uploading your images to Wikimedia Commons
- Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)
Looking for topics? The Tasks page, which you are welcome to update, offers some ideas and wanted articles.
This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. The group's mission is to develop LGBT-related content across all Wikimedia projects, in all languages. Visit the affiliate's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome! If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's talk page.
Thanks, and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:49, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, The Obento Musubi. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
Greetings Recent Changes Patrollers!
This is a one-time-only message to inform you about technical proposals related to Recent Changes Patrol in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:
- Adjust number of entries and days at Last unpatrolled
- Editor-focused central editing dashboard
- "Hide trusted users" checkbox option on watchlists and related/recent changes (RC) pages
- Real-Time Recent Changes App for Android
- Shortcut for patrollers to last changes list
Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.
Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.

Nomination of Augie T. for deletion
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Augie T. until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Boleyn (talk) 16:29, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
Hanamure-mura moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Hanamure-mura, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. John B123 (talk) 22:13, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
The article Carpenters Perform Carpenter has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Tagged as unsourced since 2007
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Another Believer (Talk) 03:47, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
