Fernando Collor de Mello
President of Brazil from 1990 to 1992
Fernando Affonso Collor de Mello (Portuguese pronunciation: [feʁˈnɐ̃du aˈfõsu ˈkɔloʁ dʒi ˈmɛlu]; born August 12, 1949) is a Brazilian politician. He was the 32nd President of Brazil from 1990 to 1992. He defeated Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the 1989 election. He resigned to try to stop his impeachment trial by the Brazilian Senate. Collor was the first President directly elected by the people after the end of the Brazilian military government.
