Joan Mitchell
American painter (1925-1992)
Joan Mitchell (February 12, 1925 – October 30, 1992) was an American artist.She is connected to the American abstract expressionist movement. She used not just oil paint on canvas but also pastel on paper, and lithographic printing.[1]

Mitchell was born in Chicago, Illinois. She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. When she graduated, she was given money to travel and work in France. From 1949 she lived in New York, where she was connected to the “New York School” of painters and poets. She started living in France in 1955. After 1959 she lived there for the rest of her life.[1]
