Leopard 2

German main battle tank

The Leopard 2 is a German battle tank, or tank or main battle tank. It is a kind of third generation battle tank. It was developed by Kraussmaffei in the 1970s. The tank came into the military of West Germany in 1979 and replaced the Leopard 1 as the main battle tank of the west German army.

The tanks produced up to the leopard 2A4 model, have a vertically faced turret armor.

The Leopard 2A5 can be recognized for its angular spaced armour on the turret cheeks and 44-calibre 120 mm main gun.

The Leopard 1 is an earlier German main battle tank.

Various versions of the Leopard 2 continues to be operated by armed forces of Germany, as well as 13 other European countries, and several other non-European countries, including Canada, Chile, Indonesia, and Singapore. Some of the countries that have Leopard 2, have a license to build their own Leopard 2 tanks.
