Vietnamese independence movement active from 1941 to 1951
The Viet Minh (also known as Vietnamese Independence League, or Việt Nam Độc Lập Đồng Minh Hội) was an Vietnamese organization who fought for Vietnam's independence from France.
It was founded by Hồ Học Lãm in 1935 or 1936. The Indochinese Communist Party took control in 1941. It fought against Japan during World War II with help from the United States and the Republic of China.
After World War II ended, the Viet Minh fought against France during the First Indochina War. They won the war and Vietnam was independent, but it was split into two countries, North Vietnam and South Vietnam.
