Native Hawaiian cuisine

Hello. I'm afraid the situation with Candleabracadabra is far more complex. Please see Talk:Native_Hawaiian_cuisine#Moved_to_draft_space. Viriditas (talk) 20:58, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Oh I understand the complexity Viriditas, I have followed a bit of the conversation. I understand the move and, and the move back, and your disagreements, and what not. Fact of the matter was we had an article without attribution in the mainspace, and a disruptive self nomination at AfD. I take no objection to a second nomination with a valid rationale, however in discussion 1, it always would have come back to what the hell is going on here, why is he nominating his own page, this is just stupid, of course we should keep this! and that would be a distraction that would end up railroading the discussion. I know this editor, and his methods, his MO is disruption of process to keep the discussion away from the actual article. I have seen it many times before. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:06, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I get the impression that Candleabracadabra means well, but lacks the basic (and necessary) competency to edit properly. I really don't want to keep wasting my time cleaning up after him and I would like to focus soley on writing and improving content. I don't think he wrote a single word of the new Native Hawaiian cuisine article, as it looks like a cut and paste pastiche from multiple Hawaii-related articles. While that could conceivably form the basis for a new article, the initial problem is that he forked the entire cuisine of Hawaii topic over to the new one, when of course, half of that article has nothing to do with Native Hawaiian cuisine. So, while I think a separate article is a great idea, he doesn't seem to understand how to do it. Perhaps a mentor could be assigned to him, as he won't listen to me or other people.
Another continuing problem at this time is his continued insertion of OR, or simply stuff that he makes up because he thinks it sounds good. There are so many examples, I don't know where to begin. I woke up this morning to discover that poke became a plantation food (impossible) and that loco moco, Spam musubi, and manapua are now considered "fusion dishes". While this might make entertaining alternative history in a science fiction novel, this continuing distortion of reality tells me he simply isn't able to edit Wikipedia. After all, to remedy this situation all he has to do is go from the sources. But looking at the last few days, I don't see him relying on any good reliable sources for content, and he seems unusually obsessed with turning every article he touches into a massive picture book, filled to the brim with images that make it impossible to read the text.
Again, I really don't want to keep wasting my time cleaning up after him. Hawaii-related topics were stable before he showed up, however, his interest in improving them is definitely appreciated. At best, it would be wise to move the Native Hawaiian cuisine article back to draft space or even to his personal sandbox until he acknowledges the problems under discussion on the talk page, yet another discussion he refuses to participate in directly. How should I proceed? Viriditas (talk) 21:17, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I understand exactly where you are coming from, and share your concerns. I don't think a mentor will help, as I said, I know this user and don't think any amount of mentoring will help. I was thinking myself that a move back to the draft space may be required. Although I am not sure where to go with this. Maybe Drmies, a the referee of the Hawaii food discussion would care to weigh in? As closer of the AfD I think I am in a little too deep to unilaterally delete and move back to the mainspace. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:23, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
I left him a message. I don't recall ever running into Candleabracadabra before, so I'm not familiar with the user. He has left an enormous number of personal attacks against me both on user and article talk pages, which I mostly ignored, chalking it up to a childish immaturity. What bothers me is that he doesn't listen to or respond to feedback, and that makes it difficult if not impossible to collaborate, or even to work alone! I suppose the new Native Hawaiian cuisine article would be OK if he doesn't restore the problematic material I removed, but if he does, I've thought about moving it to his user sandbox. I think editors like this really need to work things out in draft space, and I'm surprised the article was moved back to mainspace instead of the draft space where it belongs. I feel like this editor is draining away hours and days of my life, and I'm unable to get anything done. This is like a "psychic vampire" situation. I'm getting really tired of having to revert back to previous versions, because in the end, this could get me blocked. Viriditas (talk) 21:37, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Actually what was going to happen (my prediction less than 1/7 through the AfD) is that the discussion would close near unanimously as keep, because it is a suitable topic (as you mentioned), even if it isn't written properly as is. So in the end, a history merge would be requried anyway, so I sped up the process by doing it mid AfD, and closed it, effectively to allow you to renominate it if you wished, without the dramaz of the self nomination. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:44, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
There's no need to explain. I assumed that was the case. You know, this does raise novel circumstances. What are the procedures in place when an article is moved from mainspace to draftspace, and the author tries to get it back into mainspace? Shouldn't it go directly to AfC? Viriditas (talk) 21:48, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
From the "you thought you had seen everything department", there are now an incredible 24 images in the new Native Hawaiian cuisine article, which is composed of 22 kB of text, most (if not all) of which has been copypasted from other existing articles on Wikipedia. He has been asked to stop adding images like this. Viriditas (talk) 21:44, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Facepalm Yes, I have seen it before. Fried sweet potato. Also, if it has been copied without attribution, there is grounds for deletion, as it is contrary to our terms of use. Although that is an easily fixable problem. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:46, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
I really don't want to keep wasting your time, but since you know this user better than me, has he ever created or written an article composed of actual content from reliable sources? Just wondering what he does here besides turn articles into massive image galleries. Viriditas (talk) 21:50, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
  • Two things, if you don't mind. (I have plenty more.) a. In general, that move an copy stuff can easily get far more complex than normal minds can understand. True. But, b. Candleabracabra does not so much lack competence as that he doesn't really care for a lot of things. Maybe image attribution is one of them, maybe not turning articles into galleries or repositories for blog postings is another. And there's the accusations of bullying and dishonesty and lying and shitholes, all the while proclaiming that collaboration is such a marvelous and necessary thing. But hey, I'm moving right along. Drmies (talk) 21:52, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
    • I have plenty of time, in fact nothing but time. But yes, he can create articles from scratch, generally of questionable notability, and sourced, often through synthesis. But not always, they can be good at times too. But Drmies hits the nail right on the head. Although I usually find, if I am being referred to as a shithole admin, it means I am doing my job. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:58, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
      • Drmies and Kelapstick, since I have your attention, I'm wondering if you would both do me a favor and share some advice. My block log shows that I tend to get blocked when I'm in a situation like this, and I want to avoid that this time. I've tried using the talk page, which has had little to no results. What's the next step here? Viriditas (talk) 22:01, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
        • It depends on what your goal is. Deletion of the article, getting the article they way that you think it should be, dealing with a bothersome user, a combination of all three? I can't see this ending up anywhere other than AN/I in the end. If a user will not engage on the talk page, there may be another intermediary notice board. Maybe a RFC/U? It is probably in order... My only advice is, whatever action is taken, just stick with the facts, be as forthright and clear as you can be, but you can't take it personal. --kelapstick(bainuu) 22:13, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
          • I'm more of a content-oriented editor, so my goal is very simple: I want to see articles improved, but I also want them to be accurate. As I explained above, the user is just copypasting content and writing stuff off the top of his head without looking at the sources. I suppose I can just keep using the talk page, but this is taking an incredible amount of my time, and that's time I just don't have. I think this has wasted somewhat on the order of 14 hours since it began. Are you willing to certify a RFC/U? At least two users will have had to try to work out the same problem, as you are aware. I'm not certain I could even get it certified at this point, and of course, it would waste an even greater amount of time, time I would like to spend writing. At this point, I would like Candleabracabra to 1) stick to the sources, 2) stop misusing images, 3) stop copypasting content all over the place, 4) stop creating articles he has no intention of researching and writing about, and 5) start using the talk page constructively to respond directly to criticism and feedback. That's about it. Do you have any feedback on my goals? Viriditas (talk) 22:20, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
              • All noble goals, but I am not sure how you are going to make out, stubborn is a word I would use, and not likely to listen. I would say do your improvements, and discuss them on the talk page. If you are making an effort, and he is not, it will only look better for your case. I have never actually ever participated in an RFC/U before, so I don't know about certification, but as far as images go, I know Drmies did discuss excessive images at at fried sweet potato, and it was also mentioned by Dennis Brown. --kelapstick(bainuu) 22:32, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Improvement? --kelapstick(bainuu) 22:36, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Heh. You owe me a new keyboard...I'm glad I was only drinking water. You know there's a problem when you reduce 24 images to 16 and you don't notice any difference! Seriously, what's going on here? This user has been here for years and doesn't know this a problem? We really need a forcible tea house "stay" when this kind of thing happens. Just kidding. But really, shouldn't we have a team of editors who can approach users like this and say, "Hey, I really like what you are doing and stuff, but could you cut it out?" I realize this place loves anarchy, but sometimes you have to say enough is enough. Viriditas (talk) 22:45, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Re: DIscussion

I'm not allowed to comment on his talk page, but I would like to inform you that he did restore an unsourced stub. When I reverted and complained, he then copypasted the entire Pre-contact period section from cuisine of Hawaii. You can see that he still forgot to copy over the actual references I used, as he only copied over the Harvard cites which don't point to anything. Finally, to create this new scope and push this POV of "contemporary Native Hawaiian cuisine", he added a single line to the lead section, "Traditional Hawiian foods predate contact with Europeans and immigration from China, Japan, and the Philippines" which has now morphed into "Native Hawiian cuisine was based on the traditional Hawaiian foods that predate contact with Europeans and immigration from China, Japan, and the Philippines". The rest of that section is about and sourced to content about the diet of Native Hawaiians from 300 AD–1778. There is nothing about "contemporary" Native Hawaiian cuisine anywhere. There are however, sources in the literature (and he would find them if he did research) about the impact of the Western diet on contemporary Native Hawaiians, indicating that they no longer eat the pre-contact diet. Native Hawaiians today are westernized, and generally partake in what is known as "local foods", a style of cuisine from Hawaii that blends Native, European, American, Asian, and Portuguese cuisine together. This material forms the bulk of the cuisine of Hawaii article. Candleabracadabra is attempting to create a POV fork that duplicates the cuisine of Hawaii article but creates a false scope based on one of the five cuisines that compose it. In other words, the sources tell us that the cuisine of Hawaii today is historically composed of 1) Ancient Hawaiian food, 2) European, American, Missionary, and Whaler food, 3) Ethnic food, 4) Local food, and 5) Hawaii Regional Cuisine. Candleabracadabra, who has not read any of these sources, and has simply engaged in OR and copypasta, claims that in his new article he will reclaim the soul of Native Hawaiian culture by placing four of these cuisines as contributing to the development of the new Native Hawaiian cuisine. This is an interesting perspective, but it's a revisionist attempt at rewriting food history and is totally unsupported. Viriditas (talk) 03:00, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Deleted Walker Films - ASL's WIKIPEDIA

Hello,

My name is John Smith. I don't understand why somebody who have wiki and deleted Walker Films - ASL four times. I need to know why somebody keep on to deletes Walker Films - ASL's WIKI. Walker Films - ASL have history in the past and real life! Please inform and explain us why did they deleted this deaf company! Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.29.85.6 (talk) 12:31, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Walker Films - ASL, well it has been deleted twice as far as I can see (although maybe again under a different name). The first time it was deleted because the author blanked the page, that is understood on Wikipedia to mean that they wished the article deleted. The second time it was deleted because the article did not state why the Walker Films was important enough to have an article on Wikipedia. It just stated it was "an deaf American film studio" [sic] (on a side note I have no idea how a film studio can be deaf).--kelapstick(bainuu) 12:37, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Rydrea Walker deleted twice as well (first for lack of assertion of notability, second time for copyright infringement). LadyofShalott 17:43, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

VIXX template taken down TWICE

Goth67 here. I'm the user who created the VIXX template infobox that you removed TWICE!!! I was just wondering what would be the minimum number of working paged articles that an infobox should have to be considered acceptable. I really want this infobox up but you admins always take it down without giving me any detailed resolutions for the supposed problem it has. I've been super busy making pages these last few days for the articles within the infobox. I simply want your consultation on how many working links it should have before I remake that template. THANK YOU Goth67 (talk) 20:17, 22 May 2014 (UTC) goth67

It depends on if the linked articles meet the notability requirements for Wikipedia. --kelapstick(bainuu) 10:51, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

♥IBCPirates♥

Hi again. Can you talk a look at this page Tewksbury Memorial High School talk page? I think User:Snezzy or Sneezy whatever his name is was being unnecessarily rude by insulting the schools' motto. It also angers me even FURTHER that the motto on my high school that is provided on wikipedia isn't even accurate. I go to that high school and I know that that is not the motto. I would like somebody to check their sources because I'm getting REALLY close to exploding! Thanks.··IBCPirates (talk) 21:19, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

I will have a look at the actual content in a few days, but the talk page discussion, while not the greatest, isn't really that offensive. --kelapstick(bainuu) 09:51, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

I think it is. Saying a school's motto is and I quote crummy end quote, is NOT nice at all, and I don't tolerate it. AND, on wikipedia guidlines, it said that Talk Pages are for helping make the page better not to criticize or discuss it. No offense to anybody, but any reasonable person would know the so-called motto Sneezy or Snezzy or whatever his name is is referring to, is a description of the school, not its motto. I think he or she probably should've went on the website to check it's motto. The actual motto is, "Tewksbury Memorial High School is nothing less than success!" Do you now see my point of view?--IBCPirates (talk) 19:08, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

He didn't say the motto was crummy, he said the motto as it was presented in the article, which was the better part of a novel, was crummy. Which it was. It wasn't a motto, it was more like a mission statement. A motto is like the one you presented, so if there is a source you can attribute that motto to, fix it. As a friend of mine here says, It is better to fix the pipe than complain about wet feet. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:52, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

He said the motto was crummy. He said that it was, "Here it is a year later, and the school's 'motto' is still crummy. Some at TMHS should take on the task of getting the school a real motto." Like I've said before, talk pages are for helping the article advance, not discuss it. And I am under the process of fixing it. I don't know if you're in high school, college or if you're an adult. But think about how it might have been the slightest chance that you won't be offended, if somebody said that about your former or present school? I'm not trying to seem rude or uncivil, but that's my position. I feel it was offensive and that's something I should fix. My apologies if I wasted your time. --Ĭβ¢Ψirates --IBCPirates (talk) 20:49, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Per the discussion on my talk page I thought that we agreed to go our separate ways? I was blocked for harassing you even though I don't follow you to articles, vote to delete articles you create, or seek to have you blocked, banned and labeled as a sock as you do me. As I am being relentlessly hounded and attacked with a boatload of accusations and attacks from you Drmies, Dennis Brown, and Hapfsjaen on various pages I would like to AGAIN reiterate my request that you not stalk my article work any more. Thanks. I will not be posting here further but I did not know how else to communicate my distress to you. Thank you for your kind consideration. Candleabracadabra (talk) 21:20, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Candleabracadabra I said I was not going to post on your talk page, with the exception of mandatory notifications. I know it causes you distress, and I have not posted anything there since. I apologize for removing a speedy deletion tag from an article you created, and fixing a link you left for a disambiguation page. Please be reminded that you do not own the articles that you create, in particular ones that have been nominated for deletion. Please be cautious with how liberally you throw around the word stalk here. Also, I would appreciate your changing the heading of this section. I would have for people to get the wrong idea. As always, you are free to post here with your concerns, most welcome. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:30, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Are you going to continue to follow me to articles? Candleabracadabra (talk) 21:36, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
If it makes you feel better, I will make an active attempt to try and avoid articles that you have created. Keep in mind, I am an administrator, and I do administrative work, like delete pages, close AfDs, move pages, etc. so there is a good chance that I will end doing some sort of administrative work on an article that you at one time edited. I am also an editor so there is a good chance that in the future I will edit a page that is on your watch list. I don't always check to see who created every article I edit. Now, if you don't mind, would you please provide the diffs where I
  1. Intimidate you
  2. Bully you
  3. Make personal attacks against you
  4. Threaten you
I am really quite keen to see these, I have asked you on your talk page before, and you have not provided them, rather just give me the standard "these actions speak for themselves" rhetoric. If you are unable to provide them would you be so kind as to change the heading of this section to something that isn't so disruptive?--kelapstick(bainuu) 21:47, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. If we happen to cross paths I will certainly understand. I would prefer to focus on article content work than engage any further in the wide ranging attacks and accusations being made against me. As you are active in those discussion, I don't think my pointing you to them is necessary. Candleabracadabra (talk) 21:58, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Then I say good day, sir, as mentioned, always welcome on this page to ask a question, despite my volunteering to stay off of yours. With regards to your not being required to point me to the explicit diffs, yes indeed you are required. I just reviewed every single comment I made at your talk page, Drmies' talk page, and the AfD, and there was not one that could be construed as a personal attack, threat (I did not even threaten to block you), act of intimidation, or bullying (note filing an SPI cannot be construed as bullying, it is a part of the Wikipedia process). If you are unwilling to either point me to the diffs or change the heading, I will be forced to do it myself.--kelapstick(bainuu) 22:02, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
I am trying not to post here but you asked me a question so I am responding. The relevant policy page is WP:Harassment. I will not be responding further. As I indicated I want to focus on article work. That's what I am here for. Thanks. Candleabracadabra (talk) 22:29, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Tabletop Simulator, thanks and request for insight

Hey Kelapstick,

Thank you so much for talking through the deletion of the page for the tabletop simulator, and also being actively engaged in the review process, now that those roads have been traveled and have come to an end, I was hoping you would be able to share some insight and offer a hand in directing me. From what I have gleaned from this experience sourcing is a huge deal for this page, where as I am use to if it came for the horses mouth that is what you stick there, in this situation what sourcing is needed to merit its existence, more reviews? Any hands on help you can provide would be great, thank you for your time Baryaj (talk) 19:51, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

I think TenPounderHammer needs to stop trying to intimidate people and stop removing sourced information and should be blocked for WP:Edit warring, WP:Ownership of articles, WP:Personal attacks and WP:INTIM as they have broken all four because of his personal opinion and kept removing sourced information. TPH also needs to revert their edit on my talk page and he needs to stop acting like a child just because he cannot have his way. 50.121.36.219 (talk) 02:37, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

I think y'all need to discuss it on the talk page before you revert yourselves into getting blocked. --kelapstick(on the run) 03:12, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Further to that 50, would you please explain to me how a stock Wikipedia template is intimidation and/or a personal attack? I would appreciate your explaining that, or showing me a specific diff where there are personal attacks or acts of intimidation. If you cannot, I would appreciate your striking those two specific accusations. --kelapstick(bainuu) 11:17, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Harbin

Because you added that redirect template to Harbin, Heilongjiang. There's no guarantee someone may find a valid redirect (existing, such as Harbin City, or new) and make the move anyway. As the page, which receives ~620 views/day (and is thus "popular"), has a demonstrated history of undiscussed controversial moves, there is no good reason not to apply move-prot. Protection level advice

Sorry to bother you Kelapstick, as I appreciate that you may be busy;

I was wondering if I may seek some advice from yourself regarding protection levels? The article Eurovision Song Contest 2015 has had several request for semi-protection, as it has come under a lot of contentious edits, including additions of original research, synthesis of published sources, vandalism (an hour's worth yesterday from the same IP), and editors adding content into a section that has no topic relevance to what is being added. However every time a request is made, it gets rejected on the ground that "other editor's are handling the situation". I appreciate editor's are swiftly reverting the actions, but it is causing some of them to wander very closely into 3RR territory, which is rather unfair for them to be subjected to sanction like that, when they are having to tidy-up such disruptive and repeated edits. These editor's who are working tirelessly in tidying up are clearly getting frustrated, when they are trying to put their attentions into improving other articles, but cannot do so because of these contentious edits.

Is there any advice that you may be able to offer, so that we can try and minimise the disruption? Would pending-changes level be more suitable for a situation like this? I thank you in advance for your reply. Wes Mᴥuse 20:09, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

I will have to take a look Wesley Mouse, but keep in mind pending changes doesn't work well (it says not to use it as well) when there are a lot of edits in a short period of time. --kelapstick(bainuu) 20:11, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the speedy response. Even though I have reviewer rights, so I'm able to handle such protected articles, I was not aware that pending changes would cause more hassle on articles that are highly edited - which in this case, the aforementioned article is highly active due to its nature of a song contest. I'm just concerned for the other editor's sake, as many are wandering so close to 3RR that it would be cruel if they got block sanctions, when all they are doing is dealing with edits of fallacy and original research. I, myself, have lost count how many warnings I've issued to editors who have made an edit that is contentious, and invite them to discuss on the talk page, only to find them continue re-placing their desired edit. For example, IP's adding a country as confirmed participation, but falsely citing what the source actually states. Or in one case, an editor repeatedly adding Israel as withdrawing and stating "because they may withdraw then it could mean other countries who dislike Israel will join" - and yet the sources they use don't even quote those facts. Anyhow, I shall leave it in your hands. Again, thanks. Wes Mᴥuse 20:22, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
OK I see the big issue is Macedonia, and you have brought it to the talk page. Which is good. I have also seen that you have notified at least one registered editor, which is also good. I looked at the previous declines in the last seven days, and they made sense (user blocked, for instance, and a decline for full protection). I would say it is getting close to semi-protection territory, and am willing to do so if it continued, probably for a week to weed out the IP edits at least (they do make it hard to make sense of) as part of the BRD cycle. Then if discussion isn't taking place and revert-revert-revert by registered users is happening again it can be upped if required. It would do you well if you think people are getting into 3RR range, to pop a note on their talk page. Sometimes people forget, or they think they are exempt because they are adding The Truth™. Just pop a note here if it happens again, as it isn't on my watchlist. I will have another look.--kelapstick(bainuu) 20:27, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Indeed, today's issue is Macedonia. Yesterday was Israel. The day before was Cyprus. I got myself to the stage where I look, shake my head, and giggle to myself at the types of editing. I wasn't aware a request for full protection had been made. That is an unusual level to ask for on these sort of articles, as they have never been fully protected in my knowledge. But yes, I opened up discussion on the talk page, although it still gets ignored which is concerning. And yes, I felt it was right to let the other editor know of the talk page discussion. I shall take aboard your excellent advice and remind people who may be on breach of 3RR. I'm sure they'd appreciate a gentle nudging reminder. Will let you know if it happens again. Thank you. Wes Mᴥuse 20:35, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
My other advice is to not know what the Eurovision Song Contest actually is, like I do. Ignorance is bliss. :) --kelapstick(bainuu) 20:37, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
At times I wish I never knew what the contest were. Nowadays it's an excuse for me to have some beers, listen to some cheesy music, and then wake up the day after thinking "did I just dream that happen?" lol. Wes Mᴥuse 20:40, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Sino-Sikh war

Hello kelapsticki have tried to neutralized the topic. There has been some edit war over this page. Seeing rationally, i saw, a vassal, may not actually launch any operations without the permission/approval of the Central Government. Moreover, the general Zorawar Singh is also hotly contested by Sikhs as well.. Dogras and Sikhs have been historical ethnic groups and the latter had built an empire over a commonwealth and subdued Dogras in 1808. So, this case is kind of mixed up.

Please let know your opinion. I guess, it can be called only Sino-Sikh war instead of Sino-Dogra or something else. All accounts taken (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 18:34, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

I have no opinion. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:25, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

powerplant786 is continously violating and vandalizing this page. This has happened even after the page has been semi-protected. Chrome!

Just pinging those who have helped with California Chrome that it's Belmont Stakes day and the race is going at about 6:30 pm EST, (I think that's -5 GMT) I anticipate most vandal problems for about two hours on either side. I did a "clean" edit for a baseline to go back to if someone messes things up beyond belief. All eyes appreciated Montanabw(talk) 07:13, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Montanabw, Kelapstick and I usually talk on other people's page to each other, so I think it is only fitting to talk here. There was a user that both of us talked to. I can't remember her name. I wanted to find out how she is doing. She took care of "wild" horses in England. She was around 60, I think owned snakes and had health problems. Bgwhite (talk) 07:28, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Yes, you're thinking of ThatPeskyCommoner and her New Forest Pony herd. She's a good person, we're friends on Facebook now, she's still having the health stuff that keeps her from spending much time at the computer. You remember she posted about her little grandson with the aggressive cancer, poor little guy passed away last fall, that was a bummer. She's a truly wonderful human being. Montanabw(talk) 15:21, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Montanabw, thank you. I really do miss her talk page. Reading Pesky's and other's stories. Having the only 99% civil talk page. I think of her about every other week and whenever news stories come up about my state's wild horse problems. Tell her I miss her and I'm sorry to hear about her grandson.
Montanabw, Bgwhite is right, it is highly inappropriate for me to talk to someone on my own talk page, in fact I may have to block myself for writing this. It's on my watch list and I am keeping an eye on it. I share an office with a big race fan (he even went to the Derby this year), so I am sure I will be listening to it in some form. I am two hours behind Eastern time, so I will still be here. --kelapstick(bainuu) 11:09, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Heh, heh, heh! It's also 2014 Epsom Derby Day, in fact, probably post time soon over there! Montanabw(talk) 15:18, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Yuck. I do hate horses. My mother and sister would ride the horses, but I got to clean out their stalls. Grrrr. I don't know what the big fuss is about the race because it is about horses. Sad thing is I remember where I was when I heard Affirmed won the Triple Crown and that was when I was a young kid. Bgwhite (talk) 17:08, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
I hate the people who do the "if you like horses, start with the (literal) shit work" part. Nothing is a buzzkill like that one. I can understand if it's not your thing (my kiddo didn't catch the bug, much as I know it's at least particularly hereditary, two of my cousins' kids got it hardcore!) but to engender total hatred, oh, I want to just shake people who do that! Montanabw(talk) 17:17, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Montanabw, you missed the first part, "My mother and sister would ride the horses". During the summer, once a week they would spend all day riding in the mountains. I got to clean five stalls when they were gone. I never spent alone time with either parent. I was extremely jealous and didn't like working while they were playing. Bgwhite (talk) 17:47, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
I did pick up on that, that really sounds like a total bummer. I guess I was thinking about some other situations I know of with my comments, I knew this one very embittered gal in the "animals are better than people" camp who used to kvetch about how she couldn't get kids to go to her barn for free riding lessons - all they had to do was clean the corrals first and "earn" their way onto a horse ... she was kind of an animal hoarder in her way, though not quite to the abuse level. I STILL don't like working when other people are playing, so I can certainly emphasize with you about that. Montanabw(talk) 18:33, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Singaporean article

As predicted he is back with a different IP address - [1]. Can we please semi-protect it now?--Twofortnights (talk) 17:21, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Six months, thanks for stopping by Twofortnights. --kelapstick(bainuu) 17:23, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for understanding! This was draining out my energy and I really hope the protection will help put an end to it. I've fixed all visa policy articles (except for a few of the countries that have chaotic visa policies with several equal sources providing different information) and most of the major visa requirement articles and almost all of it went nicely. When it comes to those that didn't there were only a few with Singaporean article being by far the worst case, although a comparable vandalism case existed (seems to have stopped) regarding South Korean citizens. Practically all the other issues were sporadic however as the new persistent vandalism case is emerging regarding the Chinese citizens article it was becoming too much to juggle with. Thank you again!--Twofortnights (talk) 17:32, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

List of legendary creatures

I saw you declined my request for protection on List of legendary creatures saying that it was preemptive. I'm sorry if I was not clear, but the request is not preemptive. Since November 28, 2013, there have been 130 edits, at least 120 of which were vandalism/reverts (see this diff). The page has been a list of subpages since that date and all edits since then have been attempts to list individual creatures. I am requesting that you reconsider your declination as I do not think I was clear enough in explaining the extent of the problem editing. Please ping me in reply with replyto or U. Thank you! EvergreenFir (talk) 19:30, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Did I? I remember the request, But not declining. I suppose I probably did. Leave it with me for a while. Doubt it will get full but probably semi. Just have to get to a computer. --kelapstick(on the run) 21:33, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Civic initiative Czechia

Hello, I ask you - as the author of original text of the page Civic initiative Czechia - for cancellation of protection of the page. If there is clear requirement for adding relevant references, which can confirm notability of the article, I should have an opportunity to correct it. In addition, they are a lot of Wikipedia pages with much less importance, where similar steps are not demanded. Jan Blanický 11:52, 7 June 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blanicky (talkcontribs)

I am not going to unprotect the page to allow an edit war to continue Blanicky. --kelapstick(bainuu) 11:57, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

It is not about edit war, but about to supplement what is required in "Please help to establish notability by adding reliable, secondary sources about the topic". So why did not you erase that requirement ? Jan Blanický 12:15, 7 June 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blanicky (talkcontribs)

My only act on the page was adding full protection to prevent an edit war, which had been ongoing for a period of 2-3 days. The addition/removal of what is nominally shown by this edit. The notability tag at the top of the page is not related to the page protection. The tag was on the page when I protected it. If you are looking for me to remove the tag, I will not. I have no interest in becoming involved with the content/notability discussion of the page, my only interest is in stopping the edit war. --kelapstick(bainuu) 12:22, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
Also, I have moved this section to the bottom of the page, that is where new discussions go. And please sign your posts. --kelapstick(bainuu) 12:23, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
  • Hi, I see you protected Civic initiative Czechia. I started an AfD for the article but couldn't put the AfD notification on the page. Maybe you could do it. Thanks, C679 09:01, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
    •  Done, Cloudz679 I have also unprotected the page, with a note at the AfD that the expectation is the edit warring has come to an end.--kelapstick(bainuu) 11:08, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Henley as a source

I've read your Reliable sources comment now, unfortunately it was archived so I will reply here. I don't know how they advertise themselves, and I am pretty sure many reliable sources have catchphrases. They are obviously working for-profit serving as the immigration managing firm for several countries including an EU member Malta. I am mentioning this because somehow that company may have some across as some random little website spamming around with their irrelevant and dubious "research". I've seen regular big newspapers citing them quite often. Now as for their methodology, they don't actually do it themselves, you can see the explanation in detail in their report [2] - basically they use open source data provided by IATA to compile this list. IATA builds their database by communicating with national governments. No source is perfect, but there is simply no alternative one. Many countries of the so called third world don't even publish their visa policies anywhere online, literally the only place to find out about their visa policies is through IATA. But IATA doesn't make these tables. Now we do have those tables here ourselves, but counting them up and summarizing may be seen as original research. Therefore it is good to have an external source for this, and I think that is why we can trust that report. Either way, whether we like or whether we don't like some source, is an entirely different question to falsifying data provided by this report.--Twofortnights (talk) 15:04, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

I don't doubt the data, and I would prefer something less commercial. As I haven't found anything else to use, I haven't removed anything, with the exception of nominating some redirects for deletion (which were deleted). I don't care for the calling it the "Henley Index" or variations thereof in the articles, as it gives it the impression that it is an actual "thing" that is used universally. Although I did see an article in The Economist that used their index. My plan in the future is to modify the articles (although not removing the source), but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for the message Twofortnights. --kelapstick(bainuu) 15:17, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately it is hard to expect there will ever be an entirely non-commercial source that would bother to compile this data. Perhaps World Tourism Organization will expand their reports to be more country-specific but it's just a presumption, I haven't heard they have an intention to do so. How do you intend to modify the articles? I agree with you it's not any kind of index, it's simply added numbers, there is no formula, it's just A+B+C+....--Twofortnights (talk) 15:39, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
In general I would just remove the mention of Henley, and keep the reference as the source for the tables. For example from Freedom_of_movement#Entrance_restrictions_in_certain_countries. Why do we mention Henley, it looks like either:
  1. The Henley Index is the standard (which it is not)
  2. Free advertising
--kelapstick(bainuu) 15:43, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Have a look at this search, we give the impression that they are the authority on the subject, when really they are a consulting company. --kelapstick(bainuu) 15:45, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
I understand, that is why I have used a different wording in the articles I've edited. I didn't mention the Henley Index. First of all it's not an index and second of all it would be undue weight as it's not Henley's data, but simply added up Government provided data to IATA. I use the wording "In 2013, xxx citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to yyy countries and territories, ranking the xxx passport yst in the world." I think it's neutral enough, Henley is here in form of a reference just for the purpose of this not being an original research.--Twofortnights (talk) 16:28, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
I don't have an issue with your wording, nor with the use of their data as a source (unless another can be found, and I am not sure it can). --kelapstick(bainuu) 16:30, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
OK then it means we need to edit the articles that contain the Henley Index as part of the content.--Twofortnights (talk) 16:33, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, that was my plan. I just haven't gotten around to it. Haven't had the time to focus on that many articles at one time. --kelapstick(bainuu) 16:34, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

It's also not just restricted to the visa pages, see also Trinidad and Tobago passport, and there are other passport pages that have it too. --kelapstick(bainuu) 16:36, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Protection Request for Trans-Siberian Orchestra page

Hello Kelapstick,

Can you please give some insight on a semi-protection request for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra page? Due to the members of the band being public figures many changes to this page are potentially harmful.

There have been numerous incidents of vandalism as well as edit warring.[1] It's not clear, however, if this is enough to warrant protection. Is it possible to get this page semi-protected in order to to promote compliance with the policy on living biographies? Please advise what the best way to proceed would be.Joda 4858 (talk) 21:34, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Well Joda 4858, it doesn't look like there is any vandalism recently to the article, certainly not enough to warrant protection. Many people/bands with articles are public figures, we do not preemptively protect pages as per the protection policy. Cheers, --kelapstick(bainuu) 22:09, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the response kelapstick. One specific example of a more tricky problem the band has run into here is that there are former members making false - and potentially libelous - claims in interviews, publishing these interviews on fan blogs and then adding those claims to the wikipedia page by referencing the interview.(See Revision) Since the band will not respond to this in the press - and refused to make negative statements in general - there is no basis per the rules of wikipedia to have these sections of the page removed. In situations like this, is there anything that the band can do to protect their online presence from this kind of attack while maintaining the wikipedia page as a credible source on the subject? In numerous circumstances these claims have cycled back into to the media from reporters who used wikipedia when gathering information on the band. This has caused a great deal of problems and because of the nature of wikipedia, unless there are other requests or actions that can be taken, there is little to no recourse to permanently dispute this.Joda 4858 (talk) 14:23, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Your recent protection of Iranian languages

The problem with the protection was that a previous editor removed the citation for Iranic and put it inside the bracket alongside "Irano-Aryan" which is a questionable un-sourced term. The citation is directly from a book discussing the Iranic languages and needs to be there. Either remove the semi-protection or protect it all together with the proper tag to indicate that the content is disputed. I have have joined the discussion on the talk page and cited my sources so please consider watching it. 69.165.246.181 (talk) 04:11, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Vandalism again on talk page

SAS81, there is no issue with requesting something like this this directly to me. I have extended protection on your userpage (it was semiprotected until the 14th). New to Wikipedia.....unsure how to respond to your comment on my proposed article

Hi,I am new to Wiki and drafted an autobiographical article (Vincent James Mannoia Jr.) before I had read the material you sent me which discourages such articles. I have now read that material and still believe the article is worth leaving up because a) I have now added the necessary references...hopefully enough and done correctly, and b) I have edited the article on Greenville College to add my role in the decision described there to remove the historic original building (Hogue Hall)...so my article is no longer an orphan, and c) other Greenville College presidents have articles (Robert Smith).

I do not fully understand how the editing and approval process works, but hope that the "speedy deletion" proposed will be declined. In accordance with the message left on my talk page, I DID delete the tag for removal because I added references.

If it is the former name of a bank, it should redirect to the current name of the bank. If there are two former names that are similar enough i.e. ï v. i, but were for different subjects, than either
  1. The appropriate spelling should redirect to the appropriate article
One should be a disambiguation page listing both banks, while the other redirects the disambiguation page.
Regardless if it is a former name of something, which it seems to be, it is better served as a redirect. If you know what it should be redirected to, than go and fix it. If you want it deleted or want more input on it you can list it at redirects for discussion. --kelapstick(bainuu) 15:07, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

There is not the name Laïki Bank (with ï). I assume that I must list it at redirects for discussion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.64.152.162 (talk) 15:15, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

concerns of vandalism, SPA attack account

Hello sir - I'm not sure what to do about this and want to bring it to your attention since you've been very vigilant regarding the vandalism on my page. This user here appears to be an SPA for attacking the subject of the article I was a COI on and myself. All his posts are simply, and quite unreasonably, attacking me and asking for me to be blocked. Concord and Claremont Railroad

Hi! I have a really weird notification that reads "Your edit on [[:[No page]]] has been reverted by Kelapstick. [No page]". I thought that that was because you had deleted Concord and Claremont Railroad, but I see no trace of that in the deletion log, so I have no idea what happened. Anyway, it's back, still substantially copied from the same two sources; I've again requested speedy deletion as G12. Do you have any salt handy? I'd be grateful. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:25, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Justlettersandnumbers, I have deleted and partially restored a part of it (I have to check the part I restored as well), you are correct in your assessment, however (hence the deletion). --kelapstick(bainuu) 14:27, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
OK, whatever you decide is fine with me. I'll warn the editor about copyright violation in any case. Many thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:29, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Hammer ready?

I've just noticed you post at the Drmies talk page, meaning you are likely still around. Is your block hammer ready? We've got a pending 3RR situation with an anon at Menon (subcaste). It's probably the same person as the 124.* anon of a few days ago, using an alternate ISP but in any event they have been warned and I opened a discussion on the article talk page.

Don't worry if you'd rather not get involved - I can always take it to AN3 but that involves more form-filling. - Sitush (talk) 18:58, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Hey Sitush, how does a fortnight's semiprotection sound? Blocking does prevent discussion on the talk page, and I am sure the IP(s) would just get back at it after the block expires. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:06, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
It will be a waste of time but I'll run with it, thanks. Anything related to the Nair community and anons or newly-registereds ends up with blocks and bans under GS/Caste: they're peculiarly aggressive and clueless. Every death threat I've had has come from that lot, not to mention some dodgy blog content. - Sitush (talk) 19:09, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
I am not particularly familiar with the case, but at most I would have blocked would be a week anyway. Let me know if the IP goes elsewhere. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:17, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
No probs. I doubt they'll go elsewhere because it is a very specific issue. I'll revert their unreliable stuff tomorrow - when even RSN has said some of it is unsuitable, it's unsuitable. - Sitush (talk) 19:25, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

The Amazing World of Gumball

Hi Kelapstick, thanks for protecting The Amazing World of Gumball articles. Just before you protected Season 1 and Season 2, the IPv6 vandal put in some work. I've reverted to the last version by me--that's not going to affect page protection is it? I notice there's no lock icon, but I figure that's just an aesthetic thing. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Cyphoidbomb I will get a notification that my edit has been reverted, but it will still be protected. You can add the icon if you want, I don't usually, which is what I am supposed to do. --kelapstick(bainuu) 23:07, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
Great, that's good to know! I'll slap a pp template on the article where warranted. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:13, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
Whoops, looks like you handed the templates. :) Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:44, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks from me too for continuing the protection. I hope my decision to only protect for a few days to see was alright. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:47, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Yeah there is actually a link in the RFPP script that allows a quicker addition of the template, I need to quit being so lazy. And the shorter protection was all good Anna. --kelapstick(bainuu) 10:51, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Hafspajen, your message here is what piqued my interest in looking at the article. Saw a message on Kelapstick's page and I realiZed I forgot to mention happy 4th of July to Kelapstick. So, as painful as this is to me, Kelapstick is the ultimate reason I turned down the speedy delete. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!!!!!. I really don't know why you guys like to celebrate on the 1st of July and call it funny names. But, deep down in your hearts, I know you what you are truly celebrating. Hi y'all. Glad that you managed to take care of my work for me BG. And glad I could be an inspiration to you. Happy belated Canada Day as well. Did you know that we only get one day for thanksgiving? And In October no less. BG are you ready for the 23rd of August? It premiers for my daughters birthday. What a gift, but she is too young to appreciate. And this is a pugs only talk page (thanks for the ones above Hafs), mine even has. Her own Facebook page. Oh and Hafspajen, did that edit fix the images to your liking?--kelapstick(on the run) 01:40, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
This place needed a good photo. I had my beloved teacup poodle, Fifi, for 19 years. I still miss her everyday. She was there during the worst time of my life and she was what got me thru. Her photo is the first thing I see when I look at the computer. Dogs can be angels. We've adopted a male toy poodle and a female teacup poodle. My wife and I are unable to have kids, so they are our children. I still haven't seen the Christmas special, but we will be ready for the 23rd. Are you ready for a bald Miss Pond on August 1st? Bgwhite (talk) 05:57, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
I can only confirm what you say... yes, it is true, our dogs can be like guardian angels. I grow up in a family where there was divorce and not much love. The only one who teached me how to love was my dog (and my friends). It was thank to that dog that I always felt loved and supported and taken care off. She slept in my bed, she was sitting beside me we I was doing my homework, she was talking long walks with me and shared everything with me... I still miss her everyday, too ... like you miss Fifi.... Hafspajen (talk) 14:20, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
I have seen the bald Pond before (I think you added her picture here once). I enjoyed the Christmas Special, and I think you will too. I don't think I mentioned it to you before either, but I finished season 1-3 of Torchwood per your recommendation, however I couldn't get into the fourth season. Give my regards to Mrs. Bgwhite, and the poodles as well. Cheers, --kelapstick(bainuu) 11:17, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Editor

Kelapstick, can you please explain to this new editor what the rules are? He thinks I am intimidating him, while I was only trying to tell him to discuss things about his new changes. It might have done something wrong or not, but he still keeps telling me (on my talk page-) that I am bossy and intimidating him. Well, that was not my intention, but I obviously can't make myself understand. Hafspajen (talk) 13:54, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Or do you think I was intimidating him? Hafspajen (talk) 17:19, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

I will have to take a look Hafs, I haven't really had much in the way of time. --kelapstick(bainuu) 17:21, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
Hafspajen, intimidating, no I wouldn't say that. But it would do you both some good to have some cordial discussion on the talk page. --kelapstick(bainuu) 18:33, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
He won't, I said we should but he declined - one edit summary, then his page, then my talk page... He just accusing me of being this and that. Hafspajen (talk) 18:59, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Kastellorizo.net

Hi Kelapstick,

I will repeat what I have mentioned to Alessandro regarding the removal of the link Kastellorizo.netfrom the Kastellorizo page:

"My name is Pantazis Houlis and I live in Kastellorizo. I am not sure of the purpose of deleting the link Kastellorizo.nTo me it seems you have not navigated yourself enough into it to appreciate its content.

For example:

1. It contains valuable information (especially the Greek version) regarding the origin of the name, including photos of the covers of extremely important books. 2. Direct links towards (extremely difficult to find for a normal user) important old videos (1929 and 1943). 3. Direct communication with the seismic spot at the island (it was added recently). 4. Recent updates of the island's important phones for anyone to use (not just for "tourists"). 5. Many maps, including a huge old one (for archive purposes) which was directly donated by the Peiraiaus Kastellorizian Association and we have been given permission to put it online. More old maps to be added, as we have not scanned them yet.

Apart from this, it contains a lot more useful information, and I do not understand the scope of branding this site as "touristic", because it has absolutely no commercial gain in any way (no paid advertisements).

Please explain to me this action. I believe you are using your status to have your way, and this is not fair for the island."

If such information is not regarded as valuable (based on the above), I believe wikipedia should seriously reconsider the reason of having the external links paragraph.

Pantazis — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pantazis Houlis (talkcontribs) 14:35, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I did look at the site, and notwithstanding my not speaking Greek, the heading which states You have just been caught in Kastellorizo's fishing net suggest to me that it falls under the realm of links not to include. Please read that link, and you are free to make a case for its inclusion on the article talk page. Wikipedia is not a phone book, we do not include links because they have useful phone numbers, and as this is the English Wikipedia, linking to an directory which is not in English seems counterintuitive to me. --kelapstick(bainuu) 14:46, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi again. Thank you for going through the site, but again it seems no one is taking this seriously, as you did not notice that everything in this site is written in both Greek and English (Therefore, it is not counter-intuitive). Moreover, I have already mentioned above that this site is not just about phones, the phones are just one of the constantly updated parts. Why is no one appreciating the rest of the information? At least, I did my part and went through the 19 points written in the link you gave me, and it is still beyond my mind of what is being done wrongly here. Finally, many Kastellorizians use it as a prompt reference, because the Municipality's website has not been updated for ages (due to election objections for the Mayor's seat which are taking place for five years and have resulted in many things staying stalled). It is a beautiful island with many difficulties to live by, and only a handful of computer literate people, but it seems we should not expect any help from wikipedia.

As I said, have a discussion on the talk page. --kelapstick(bainuu) 15:23, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Extended page protection for Newcastle United F.C.

As per your previous page protection, three days went by and the unsourced edits resumed after that. I have sent in another RPP and was wondering if you could extend the temporary semi-protection for another month. That would be closer to the start of the new season and things should settle down by then. I'm otherwise bogged down by the many reverts every few hours. Cheers. Editing of link

My website is covered by the creative commons license, just as many are. I would like to protest your removal of the Godzilla link from the Godzilla page, and thought that this would be a good first step. Doctor Kaiju (talk) 12:19, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

It is not a matter of your link being CC, what is the content, Godzilla movies? Movie Posters? You do not own the copyright for those. We don't link to people's personal sites, we link to official sites. --kelapstick(bainuu) 12:21, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

The content is giant movie monsters, including their appearance in the film and a poster. I do not need to own the copyright to post them under the creative commons license (like Wikipedia), as the website is non-profit and deemed educational by the host. Wikipedia ("we", which includes me) DOES link to people's personal sites (Toho Kingdom, Stomp Tokyo, etc.) throughout the kaiju section. So, with that fact in mind, can the link be replaced please? Doctor Kaiju (talk) 12:31, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

First, let me compliment you on your page, it looks quite nice. But I see no compelling reason for us to link your particular page, which is full of copyright material. We post to official sites, user generated sites. --kelapstick(bainuu) 01:31, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the compliment! I must again stress that we (Wikipedia) have well-established links to sites that are not official or more user generated throughout the kaiju sections I am familiar with. Also, all of the material on my site is covered by fair use; just as the monster pictures and movie posters at Wikipedia are (and the sites that Wikipedia links to). I think that these are both compelling reasons for my site to be included, at least until something better (official) comes along. There really is no official equivalent that I have found. If so, it should certainly be included here, as it's very nice to see all of the movie incarnations on one page, as opposed to looking at 30 different pages to see the 30 different film appearances of Godzilla. Alternatively, something of a similar layout could actually be duplicated here at Wikipedia (the 30 incarnations and posters on one page), using the movie posters and monster pictures that Wikipedia already has. Doctor Kaiju (talk) 07:28, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Well, I still don't see why it should be included, however I would recommend discussing it on the talk page to draw further input.--kelapstick(bainuu) 11:09, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
For example, I see your site one of the sites to be excluded as per point 11 of WP:ELNO. I still recommend a talk page discussion though, you will get further input that way. --kelapstick(bainuu) 11:35, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Okay, will do. If point 11 were applied to the kaiju section there would be virtually no links and very little additional information available (in English, anyway). Our best resources for kaiju are from fans, like at Toho Kingdom (not my site, but an example of a great unofficial resource). Doctor Kaiju (talk) 04:47, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

matches season 2014/2015

i see you have deleted my page "matches season 2014/2015" as you stated it is a duplicate of a page already.....this is not true. NWCFL 2014/2015 covers ONLY league games and shows only the league table and a very brief result grid. My page would have had report links, scorers, a chart of the league positions, and it would have covered all games...preseaaon, league and cups.an example of a similar page can be seen on "2013–14_Leicester_City_F.C._season" which shows exactly the same info as i was going to provide for my team, Glossop, so why is mine deleted and Leicester City's page is not. Please re activate my page as i sent a long time on it and i have had many compliments from fellow Glossop fans saying how useful it would be.brgds Chris — Preceding unsigned comment added by GNEbandit (talkcontribs) 23:53, 10 July 2014 (UTC)

First and foremost, the title does not actually explain what the article is about. Whose matches? Second of all, the page was run afoul of the non-free content criteria, with extensive fair use images (although as a new user, that can be overlooked as repairable, and it is understandable that you would not know that). Third of all, the teams in the leagues that you describe typically do not have individual season articles. Fourth of all, you are now asking why a team in Premier League has a season article, but a team in Level Nine, the North West Counties Football League, doesn't? Fifth of all, you are using Articles for Creation, which is a good idea. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:55, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
re 2014–15 Glossop North End A.F.C. season - I have re designed this page, from the previous one and i understand what you are saying, but i believe Glossop North End are very much an exception to the rule. There are multiple pages of many teams from multiple league, and although we are in a lower league at the moment we are a team who has supporters around the world namely Australia, America and across Europe and have one of the highest fan bases of many non-league professional or semi professional teams currently around. There are equal pages like this for lower level Welsh and Scottish teams and yet we have a higher attendance at every game than most games in the two leagues ahead of us in the English pyramid. With no disrespect intended, you are from over the water and possibly don't know how lower level football is followed over in the UK. Grass roots football is the future of football and as such the fan base is growing, as most people cannot afford the prices of league football, and as such the data on this page IS warranted, and just because no other teams at our level have not got a page like this yet just means that GNE would be leading the way. Through feedback from our basic Wikipedia page i know there is a demand for this page to exist drawing all the information from multiple sources to combine on one page. I believe Wiki is meant to be used as a world wide source of information, and this is just for that purpose.....and not just to allow the 'bigger boys teams' to have a strangle hold on the web GNEbandit (talk) 09:21, 15 July 2014 (UTC)brgds Chris GNEbandit (talkcontribs) 09:08, 15 July 2014

Yes, I need help - Rfa

Like this one... West Highland White Terriers at Earthdog Trial

If you are here that people should ask, you need help with anything, just ask. That's what I am here for = can you please tell me how exacly to open one of those discussons with a big yellow template that will make people voting and saying yes or no on a topic? At Talk:West Highland White Terrier, about a picture added. Hafspajen (talk) 22:49, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

You mean Wikipedia:Requests for comment?--kelapstick(bainuu) 23:19, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Ah, yes. Hafspajen (talk) 23:33, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
How am I doing? At Talk:West Highland White Terrier. Hafspajen (talk) 23:37, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
I believe that you would normally have two sections below, one for a survey, and one for a threaded discussion (there is an example on the link above). Not sure if an RfC is typical for a photo addition, I don't have much experience with them. I am not fussy on the picture, maybe cropping the people out would be better, as the picture is to illustrate the dogs, not the ladies. I may opine on it tomorrow. --kelapstick(bainuu) 23:42, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
I don't know either how to put in the picture issue, so I did - well, improvised. Yes, I know, the dogs are very small in the picture, aren't they.... But the editor ... I think want to add it as it is. And if we crop it, then we have either way much better pictures than that one. Hafspajen (talk) 23:48, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
Well wider discussion is good, so let's go with it. --kelapstick(bainuu) 23:50, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

I went and added the picture in two other articles instead, where they have a better encyclopedic value, like Dog breeding. Hafspajen (talk) 11:52, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Unrelated pug discussion

Every dog article requires an obligatory pug picture.
Fetched! (Sorry for those French ears...)

Did you know... that my pug:

  • Is claustrophobic (to the point of not walking through a door if it is not open enough to get her entire body through)?
  • Blind in at least one eye (but can still catch a treat when thrown to her, maybe 75% of the time)?
  • Has eppilepsy (and takes phenobarbital for it, so much for my pugs not drugs shirt)?

kelapstick(bainuu) 23:50, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

  1. Really? You should try to desensibilize, start with an open door, and gradually close it more and more. Every time she/he is walking through will get something s/he likes a lot. And start closing it very slowly, start like half inch a time or even less, 1cm -or so.
  2. No problem.
  3. well, if you have medication... Hafspajen (talk) 23:57, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
At nine years old, I think we are beyond desensitization, we have learned to live with her neurosis. :) --kelapstick(bainuu) 23:58, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
And I am doing my best...
Oh, no, it is never to late. Back or fawn? Hafspajen (talk) 00:04, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Fawn, but her father was a black pug, so she is darker than most fawn, especially in the face. She always gets complimented on her perfect double curl tail. --kelapstick(on the run) 01:28, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

kinross is one of the biggest gold mining companies in the world YET

The introduction is badly written, and mentions it was a merger from a tiny mine. Why in the openning comments provide this tangent about smallness, as since then billions in capital has been inserted into the company?? Undermines investors' feelings.

Much better to list its production details. 2.3 million ounces of produciton and silver production. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prof. Wong (talkcontribs) 16:54, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Prof. Wong you can expand the lead if you want, but but do not remove information that summarizes the article, as that is what the lead is for. Also keep in mind that the article must be referenced with third party reliable sources. Wikipedia does not care about the investor's feelings, this is an encyclopedia, not an investment portfolio. --kelapstick(bainuu) 16:59, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Yes I am shareholder of K.To. I am here to help remove the negative comments inserted to reduce the value and aid the shorts. A fair presenation is all we seek. Thank for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prof. Wong (talkcontribs) 17:16, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Then perhaps you should read our conflict of interest guideline. Where are the negative comments? There is the history of how it formed, how is that negative? It is of public record. There is no issue with adding how the company stands now, in fact it should be added, however removing sourced information about the company because you do not like it is not acceptable. --kelapstick(bainuu) 17:19, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
Prof. Wong you should add a section for production between the history and operations section, a table showing the growth over the last 5-10 years would work well. It must be sourced with reliable sources however, preferable third party (news/journals), however sometimes that is not available.-kelapstick(bainuu) 17:23, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. --Prof. Wong (talk) 18:11, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Chuckle. The homepage for kinross history section http://kinross.com/about-kinross/our-history/1993.aspx used the word "consolidation" last week, but it NOW has been reworded with the word "amalgamation" about the combination of three companies to create Kinross -- on their mind too. Wiki uses the word merger. I think it is not a merger technically , because the companies were mostly owned by the same owners/shareholders, making it a consolidation then.

Other issues. Not sure about gold silver ratios as read in annual report that silver production is disclosed as gold production based on a ratio.

Information on changing the word merger to amalgamation as Kinross words it. Nicer tone. Have a good day.--Prof. Wong (talk) 19:14, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

My dear Professor, how nice to see you again. It does not matter how Kinross words it, it is how reliable, independent sources word it. In this case The Deseret News referred to it as a merger, which is where the wording comes from. We discourage writing articles using the corporate website as a source, as naturally, it is going to be somewhat biased. A an encyclopedia we strive to not be biased. As for the reporting, it is difficult, as often these things are reported in equivalent ounces. I would personally leave out their position as a silver producer, as they are a gold company. I would however include production numbers for silver, if I were listing it. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:26, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
Also, I would appreciate it if you used citation templates for adding references, and not bare URLs, I spent a lot of time making that page presentable a couple years ago, and I have a dislike of messy citations.--kelapstick(bainuu) 19:29, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Can you please tell me why you deleted our corporate page? I realize it hasn't had any activity in a while - but all content was relevant even if not updated. (talk page stalker) I have not looked at the history of your page, but I suspect it was deleted for advertising. We strongly discourage people from writing articles about themselves or their own companies, because of the obvious conflict of interest. If your company truly is notable, someone else can, and is likely to, create an article about it. LadyofShalott 23:12, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Beautiful mine photos and a Doctor

I saw this article of mine photos. A photo in Germany's strip mine reminded me of a Star Wars big doohickey. While growing up, I'd watch out the house window with binoculars and see the huge dump trucks' load drop down the 2,000 ft overburden pile. I was 10 miles away from Kennecott. Didn't know I was growing up on a 50 sqmi proposed superfund site. It didn't get on the list after Kennecott agreed to install the world's largest inland osmosis plants. It will take around 30 years to clean the groundwater. My dad did grow up on a partial Kennecott superfund site. They came into my grandparent's neighborhood and striped everything from the land that wasn't a house. Another of the valley's superfund sites was a uranium processing facility that was active in the late 40s to the 60s. You could get the left over tailings for free. When people built houses, they would use the free dirt. Around 10 houses next to where my mom grew up had the fun-filled dirt. Hmmm, all these superfund sites in my family tree might explain some of my "quirks".

For Monday, I've got tickets to watch Doctor Who's season premier in a movie theater. Four showings at the theater are sold out. I'm sure Drmies is very jealous. Bgwhite (talk) 08:48, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

  • Oh darn. I'll miss it again. Drmies (talk) 13:54, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
    • I stick to the underground, that way you can't see what we are up to, save for the large tailings pile. I have known a few people who have been to Diavik. And Bingham canyon. In fact I was working for the parent company as a contractor (at a different mine) when the landslide happened. I have also been to Grasberg, truly something to behold, the whole operation. A city on a mountain in the middle of nowhere. Rains every day at 2:00 pm, could set your watch to it. Cable cars to get people to the pit. I was underground, they have churches and mosques within the mine. I missed the premier, but have it taped at home. Been out camping for a few days. If I don't actually have it taped, I will see if I can get a ticket tomorrow. It's playing locally. --kelapstick(on the run) 00:44, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
      • I'd go camping over watching a tv show any day. My grandfather was in the coal mines for a few months before going off to WWII. He hated the experience and only told horror stories of his time. I enjoyed the premier, but wasn't excited. I like the new Doctor as he is a good change of pace over the ever increasingly younger Doctors. It was funny. I'm just not a fan of the Victorian trio and shows that take place during that time. It was rather boring except for the humor. Bgwhite (talk) 04:48, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
        • Well the premier did not tape in the end (not sure why), however I was able to figure that out the day it was also showing in theatre. Fortunately Pictou County does not have a significant Doctor Who following, so tickets were plentiful. We were also able to get decent seats. I didn't care for the performance at the beginning, however Capaldi managed to pick it up around the middle, and I enjoyed it. --kelapstick(bainuu) 14:10, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Frankie MacDonald

Hi there, good work with this article. In the past, I and other editors had to remove his name from multiple notable people lists because at the time, it was red-linked. However, on numerous occasions I also had to remove comments made about the subject that were ignorant and childish, so I wanted to tell you that I have already added the article to my watchlist to make sure the comments added elsewhere don't end up being added to his article. Cmr08 (talk) 06:09, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the info Cmr08, and for keeping an eye on it. I know it can be a target, which is part of why it took me so long to create it. Also, if need be in the future, and I am not paying attention, let me know and I can apply semiprotection.--kelapstick(bainuu) 11:24, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm not exactly sure why that certain individual has such a hate on for Frankie. On a few occasions now he/she has pointed out and belittled the fact that Mr. MacDonald has a menial job at a local mall without pointing out that Frankie is a contributing member of society. I THINK this could be easily construed as bullying and any/all references to this really should be expunged for his privacy and protection. Regards,  Aloha27 talk  22:25, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, that was the point I was getting to regarding the belittling comment, but it seems the old adage "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink", is true. I am rather involved in the situation to take action Drmies would you mind having a look at Talk:Frankie MacDonald and the subsequent AfD with regards to Aloha27's comment. Re:Drinking in public

I had that title changed because Public alcohol consumption seemed more encyclopedic just as public intoxication seems more appropriate than "getting drunk in public" but it's up to you.--Nadirali نادرالی (talk) 20:14, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Nadirali, the point was correct that a discussion should take place prior to a move, which I agree with (at the time I was more concerned about fixing the typo). Further I don't think that either is the correct name. Drinking in public, while widely known to mean drinking alcoholic beverages, doesn't necessarily mean that (I could be drinking water, or Pepsi, for example). I would think that public consumption of alcohol or consumption of alcohol in public would be more grammatically correct than public alcohol consumption. So by all means, start a discussion on the talk page, it is not up to me at all. --kelapstick(bainuu) 20:26, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

As a title Public Alcohol Consumption is perfectly okay, just as public intoxication as opposed to getting drunk in public. But when I wrote it's up to you, I meant it's not something that I feel is worth debating over. It's not such a big deal. public consumption of alcohol is also fine with me.--Nadirali نادرالی (talk) 20:33, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I wouldn't say it is incorrect, I just think it could be more correct, but that's my opinion, and I am not known for my grammar, spelling, or generally good wordiness. --kelapstick(bainuu) 20:37, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

AFD closure

Your close here was excellent. I'm certainly not just saying that because it "went my way" - it was measured, policy-based, nuanced and as non-bitey as you could hope from a close of a discussion with so many new contributors. A couple of good sources would render most of that discussion moot and I suspect some day they'll be created and the article will be recreated. Until then, I think everyone can be satisfied that they got a fair hearing, in no small part because of that close. Nicely done. Stlwart111 13:31, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Stalwart111, always nice to hear when someone thinks you did something right for a change . It was a little more explanatory than a standard close, but given the discussion below, I felt that was necessary. I would not be surprised to see it at DRV. As mentioned, because of the potential sources I have no objection to draftification, or moving it to AfC on demand. But of course, we don't keep based on potential (in general). Thanks for stopping by. --kelapstick(bainuu) 13:38, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Of course and I wouldn't have any objection to either of those options either if someone wants to work on it. Stlwart111 14:52, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of ADCC article.

Hi. I was shocked to see the ADCC article deleted. It is a very well known and respectable Venue, wiki linked throughout MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) articles on wikipedia (e.g. see lead Fedor_Emelianenko) . Most of it's winners have their own wikipedia articles these are very notable athletes/fighters. example of one tournament winners:2000_ADCC_Submission_Wrestling_World_Championship

I found it very bizzar somebody would even nominate this for deletion. Looking at the Editor that initiated the deletion, He has clearly done so in order to promote his favourite submission wrestling technique. He is working on making that article himself :

User:CrazyAces489/Luta_livre_esportiva

His initial reason for deletion "Seems to be a non-notable grappling event". is ridiculous, especially that he is clearly into the sport of submission wrestling.

I reccomend reverting the original deletion, and also removing the templates he added in all the ADCC tournaments wikipedia pages. Thank youBigbaby23 (talk) 16:30, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Did you see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship? And please assume good faith on deletion nominations.--kelapstick(bainuu) 16:32, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Ofc i did :) this is how i got here in the first place. This deletion request cannot by any means have been done with good faith.Bigbaby23 (talk) 16:39, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
You may wish to visit Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1998 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship, and on Wikipedia we assume good faith unless there is evidence otherwise. Working on an article about one format of submission wrestling does not automatically mean he is against another.--kelapstick(bainuu) 16:45, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
I just have done so to prevent new deletions. but I have contacted you for the purpose of the main article. you are the administrator that approved the deletion. Bigbaby23 (talk) 17:02, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, and I deleted the article based on the consensus that I found at the articles for deletion discussion. If you disagree with my reading of consensus, you can take it to deletion review. --kelapstick(bainuu) 17:06, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Oh God. I don't want this to become so tedious. According to DRV "Before listing a review request please attempt to discuss the matter with the closing admin as this could resolve the matter more quickly.". I'm telling you that the whole proccess of deletion was done not in good faith. i wish i saw the discussion while it was open.

For your consideration, ADCC is notable across the board:

  • Sports Illustrated "A year later, he failed to let go of a compromised limb during a submission grappling match at the famed Abu Dhabi Combat Club world championships." 9
  • ESPN "The top grapplers in the world congregated in England this past weekend for the 2011 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship. A bi-annual event, it's the most prestigious submission grappling tournament in the world and attracts fighters from across the globe." 10
  • Fox Sports "Galvao is a two-time world champion as well as an ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) champion multiple times over including a championship in the absolute weight division." 11
  • Bleacher Report "In late 2002, Bravo entered the North American Trails for the ADCC Submission Grappling Tournament, a qualifier for the toughest no gi competition in the world." 12
  • SB Nation "Four UFC fighters set to compete at ADCC 2013" 13

I'll add this in the new discussion about the branching articles. Thank youBigbaby23 (talk) 17:20, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

And you have discussed it. I didn't delete it based on the merits of the article, I deleted it based on the consensus of the discussion, as I am supposed to do.
Now, looking at what you have there, those articles seem to be about the fighters (the individual fighters) not about the ADCC itself. The ADCC does not become notable because an article about a person merely mentions it. But that discussion should take place at the AFD not my talk page. Thank you. --kelapstick(bainuu) 17:24, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Revert the recent page move?

Drinking in public remained for over 5 years(since it was written).[14] You can also use search engines for knowing about the popularity and usage of these titles. User has not attempted any discussion for the title Public alcohol consumption. I cannot undo it, but I have seen you just editing the title. Will you revert this move? Bladesmulti (talk) 02:06, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

I can't right now. But if no body beats me to it I will have a look at moving it so a RM discussion can take place. --kelapstick(on the run) 02:51, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes that is possible too. Thank you for writing back. Bladesmulti (talk) 03:05, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Cheers! What could be the reason that talk page couldn't move? If its serious, you must report. Bladesmulti (talk) 13:57, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
I really have no idea, it must not default to deleting the talk page to make way for the talk page move. Or I missed it when I moved the page, but it is completed now. --kelapstick(bainuu) 14:00, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
I want Caste system in Ceylon to be moved back to Caste system in Sri Lanka. It was another undiscussed page move,[15] made hardly 1 month ago. Ceylon is just a city and Sri Lanka is whole country. Page had the previous title for 9 years.[16] Bladesmulti (talk) 06:31, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
Ceylon is not a city, it is the former name of Sri Lanka (until 1972). The article lead explains that the article deals with the caste system whilst it was called Ceylon, and that for the most part in modern Sri Lanka it is not as prominent. Not all moves require a move discussion, that is why we have WP:BOLD. If you think it should be moved back, bring it up on the talk page. --kelapstick(bainuu) 11:31, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
Started.[17] I was kidding about Ceylon that it is a city, it is actually, but not inside Sri Lanka. Obviously the caste system still exists, page just requires some(at least 2) paragraphs that would describe current situation. Bladesmulti (talk) 12:00, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
These days there are so many undiscussed and controversial page moves. Can you guess that I need many page moves reverted. I wouldn't be bothering you every time. I asked about it on Wikipedia talk:Requested moves, got to learn about Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests and posted just 4.[18] All reverted! Just letting you know that I have found a new board, where these problems can be solved. Bladesmulti (talk) 14:12, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Spode Music Week

I am disappointed that you deleted the page Spode Music Week. The reasons you gave were that there was little discussion after I made amendments, restructured, and added additional information and references to the article to improve the article so that it met all of the Wikipedia notability guidelines, and that one of the comments made in support was a 'Weak Keep', since it only refers to a couple of supporting articles from 'The Catholic Herald', and that a second comment was a suggestion to check Way Back Machine for archived articles within the aforesaid publication.

Regarding the first 'Weak Keep' assessment, no mention has been made to the other independent and reputable sources which I had used in the article, namely 'the Tablet' and 'English Heritage'. So, it is not true to say that only 'a handful (or two handfuls) or articles' exist regarding this Catholic music week. If 'the Catholic Herald' was the only source cited, then I may concur that there is not 'significant coverage'. However, I have cited two other sources, and I contend that this is significant coverage (certainly more significant coverage than other uncontested wikipedia articles that I have seen). Its origins are linked to the building in which it was first held, Spode House in Staffordshire - which is itself a Wikipedia article under the name 'Armitage Park' and which recently reverted to its original name, Hawkesyard Hall - and further referenced in the article by myself to the English Heritage website as a Grade II listed building.

Many notable musicologists, musicians, conductors, academics, clergymen and others have been associated with the week over the past 60 years, some of whom were mentioned in the revised article which I contributed towards, and many of whom have articles on wikipedia dedicated to them.

Regarding the suggestion to check Way Back Machine, that was because one editor could not access the Catholic Herald archive online to which I had referred. I acknowledge that the archive of the Catholic Herald is not always accessible. I could not access it initially myself, but was able to after trying after a couple of days, in order to find the references to Spode Music Week. Why did no-one try to access the archive of 'The Tablet' which is available online, and has had no accessibility issues?

I would therefore urge you to restore the article 'Spode Music Week' in its latest version in full, or at least in draft if you have any valid objections, and if you or other editors have any objections, then you are free to make suggested edits to the article as it stands, or challenge any of the references or sources used, like any other wikipedia article. Carlolingian (talk) 20:15, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Carlolingian, as I said in my closure, I have no objection to restoring it upon request to the draft article space, which I will do now, you will find it at Draft:Spode Music Week. You will be able to improve the article, the sourcing, the formatting, and have it reviewed by other editors prior to moving it back into userspace. --kelapstick(bainuu) 14:28, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Stop signs

I looked through the Commons and found the following signs, English, French and Cree language - in Mistissini and in Mistissini again, Cree only in Chisasibi, Inuktitut amd English - in Iqaluit, Iqaluit again, Pangnirtung and Nunavut in general. Also Commons:Category:Red octagonal stop signs with text ᒋᐱᐦᒋ and Commons:Category:Red octagonal stop signs with text ᓄᕐᒃᑲᕆᑦ. However, I will see if I can get one from here later as ours are in English and Inuvialuktun using the Latin script and not Inuktitut syllabics. I got one File:Nutqarrit - Stop sign in CYCB.JPG but it's covered in frost so I'll have to try again another day. I'm not exactly sure what Nutqarrit translates to as taimak is "stop!", taimaaqtuq is "stops", nutuqangajuq is "stops for a while" and nutqaqtuq is "stops moving". I took some more pictures of signs last night at work and I'll upload them later. Still foggy here and depositing frost on everything. Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Kelapstick. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using . If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with .

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Remember how you protected the Visa requirements for Singaporean citizens article back in June until 7 December because of the long term disruption by IP 4.53.78.52? Well the page was peaceful since, however believe it or not it didn't take more than 7 days since the protection expired for him to come back and continue the same old same old. I honestly find it bizarre that someone waited for 6 months to continue vandalizing the page. Anyway I was wondering if you could protect it again, and perhaps do something about that IP considering it is apparently static. Not much this year, but the prize win was a TARDIS and Dalek sugar and cream holder, which would use (if I took sugar and cream) in my Doctor Who coffee (or tea) mug, complete with dematerializing (and materializing) TARDIS (Bgwhite, I know you are jealous). --kelapstick(bainuu) 15:27, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Quite so, Bgwhite is probably completely green by now. Hafspajen (talk) 15:32, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Nope, not jealous at all. I've got my Adipose figure keeping me company. Now, if you had gotten a certain Clara, Amy, River, Donna or Martha, I would be very jealous. Once again this Christmas, my wife didn't get Capt. Jack for her present. Holmes Inspection is partially on Netflix now, so we are watching it again... It's unnerving seeing my wife drool whenever Damon is on screen. Bgwhite (talk) 22:00, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Really... Hafspajen (talk) 22:01, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Well Bg I guess you won't be drooling at the TARDIS Yahtzee set, with aliens on the dice either, compliments of my brother in law. --kelapstick(bainuu) 22:26, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Happy New Year Kelapstick!

Admin help

Drmies, LadyofShalott, or Bgwhite, can one of you do me a favour? I just deleted User:Technical 13/Holiday list for Technical 13 (as U1), and it shows as deleted, however the page shows a G7 tag on it, as well as information about why the page was deleted. I looked at it not logged in, and under a non-admin account and it shows nothing strange, just wondering what it looks like under a different admin account. --kelapstick(bainuu) 12:57, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

  • Kelapstick, that's because Template:Editnotices/Page/User:Technical 13/Holiday list needs deletion too. — Technical 13 (etc) 13:04, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

You are not suposed to edit others edits but this template is weird, https://www.search.com.vn/wiki/en/User:Bababa67/newyeardispla/editnotice - check, Hafspajen (talk) 14:35, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

I think it is just bad English Hafs, not sure what Drmies was talking about there though. Although his userpage and infoboxes are quite odd. --kelapstick(bainuu) 16:29, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
  • I'm glad it's sorted! LadyofShalott 15:20, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
    • All good, happy new year y'all. -kelapstick(bainuu) 16:29, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

I don't know - did you asked him anything lately? Hafspajen (talk) 17:08, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Just what's above, but I don't see the two as related. --kelapstick(bainuu) 17:19, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Wish you were here

Have a bacon-filled new year!

As a member of WikiProject Bacon, I'm wishing you a very happy New Year's Eve and a great 2015! May your new year be filled with positive experiences, great wiki contributions, and of course, well-smoked thin-cut bacon. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:25, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Template:LPFM station data

Could you make one small change to the page? At the bottom, where it gives instructions, could you please change the template link to the correct one? I goofed and have it as FM station data instead of LPFM station data. Thanks in advance and thanks for approving the RPP. - NeutralhomerTalk • 12:58, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Let me know if I mucked it up Neutralhomer, but I think I got it. --kelapstick(bainuu) 13:01, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Yup, you got it. Thanks! :) I will be going through and updating all the LPFM articles with the correct template now. - NeutralhomerTalk • 13:03, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Just wanted to give you a quick heads up. I have finished adding the new template (in place of the "FM station data" one) to all LPFM radio station pages. - NeutralhomerTalk • 20:35, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Great, let me know if you need anything else. --kelapstick(bainuu) 20:37, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Will do and thanks again for your help. - NeutralhomerTalk • 20:44, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Railroad

Alaska Railroad Denali station

Hafspajen (talk) 20:03, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Klappy WHAT is this? Hafspajen (talk) 19:43, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Not sure, didn't watch the video, but ours is always on a harness because she chokes herself. Mainly because she is an idiot, not because we worry about her eyes popping out. Although she may lose one in the near future, she's already half blind. --kelapstick(bainuu) 19:48, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

CU block

Also blocked User:Patesloe. Dougweller (talk) 15:06, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Dougweller, did Eyinggewers fall under that too? That would be the last of them (as far as I can tell). --kelapstick(bainuu) 15:14, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
Yes. Dougweller (talk) 16:40, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Home Owner's Association orders removal of TARDIS

Thought you might enjoy this news item. The site I found it on made a comment that the TARDIS owners should put some weeping angels on neighbors driveways. That would take care of the neighbor problem. Bgwhite (talk) 01:06, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Fascinating, I have been looking for plans to build one, but haven't found them yet. --kelapstick(bainuu) 01:17, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
