AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movie Quotes

AFI's 100 Years…100 Movie Quotes er en liste over de 100 beste replikkene fra amerikanske spillefilmer ifølge det amerikanske filminstituttet (American Film Institute – AFI).^[1] Listen ble stemt fram i en undersøkelse blant 1500 filmkritikere, filmhistorikere og fagfolk fra filmbransjen.^[1] AFI lanserte en liste med tre kriterier som de stemmeberettigede måtte ta hensyn til når de skulle stemme. Det var til sammen 400 nominerte filmsitater.^[1]

En scene fra 2001: En romodyssé (1968). Astronauten Dave (Keir Dullea) ber HAL 9000 om å åpne luftslusen. («Open the pod bay doors, HAL.») HAL nekter, fordi det vil sette oppdraget i fare. Replikken ble kåret til det 78. beste filmsitatet.

Listen ble presentert 21. juni 2005 av det amerikanske filminstituttet i en CBS-sending produsert av Bob Gazzale.^[1]^[2] TV-sendingen het AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes: America's Greatest Quips, Comebacks and Catchphrases, og skuespilleren Pierce Brosnan var programleder.^[2]^[3] Sendingen ble nominert til en Primetime Emmy Award for beste klipping.^[4] Rhett Butlers siste ord til Scarlett O'Hara i storfilmen Tatt av vinden («Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.») ble kåret til det beste filmsitatet.^[2] Dramafilmen Casablanca (1942) har seks replikker på listen, mens Tatt av vinden (1939) og Trollmannen fra Oz (1939) har tre replikker hver.

AFI lanserte en liste på tre kriterier som velgerne måtte ta hensyn til når de skulle stemme:^[1]

Sitatet må være en uttalelse, en snar replikk eller kort dialog fra en amerikansk film. Sangtekster gjelder ikke.
Sitatet må ha blitt en del av dagligtalen, hjulpet av referanser i populærkulturen.
Sitatet skal minne tilskueren om opphavsfilmen, og dermed sørge for at filmen holder seg aktuell.

Kun spillefilmer som var utgitt før 1. januar 2004 ble vurdert.^[1]
