നവോത്ഥാനകാലഘട്ടത്തിനു മുൻപു ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇറ്റാലിയൻ ചിത്രകാരനാണ് ജ്യോവാനി മസാക്കിയൊ.(ഡിസം: 21, 1401 – 1428).പിൽക്കാലത്തെ ഇറ്റാലിയൻ ചിത്രകാരന്മാരിൽ വലുതായ സ്വാധീനം മാസാക്കിയോ ചെലുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.ഇരുപത്തിയാറാമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ അദ്ദേഹം മരണപ്പെട്ടു.[1]
