পিয়ের সিমোঁ লাপ্লাস

পিয়ের সিমোঁ মার্কি দ্যু-লাপ্লাস (ফরাসি: Pierre-Simon Marquis de Laplace) (২৩শে মার্চ, ১৭৪৯ - ৫ই মার্চ, ১৮২৭) একজন ফরাসি গণিতবিদ ও জ্যোতির্বিদ, যিনি গাণিতিক জ্যোতির্বিদ্যা ও পরিসংখ্যানের উন্নয়নে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রেখেছেন। তিনি তাঁর মেকানিক সেলেস্ত (অর্থাৎ জ্যোতিঃবলবিদ্যা) গ্রন্থের পাঁচ খণ্ডে তাঁর পূর্বসূরীদের কাজের সারসংক্ষেপ ও পরিবর্ধন করেছেন। তার এই কাজ চিরায়ত বলবিদ্যার জ্যামিতিক দৃষ্টিভঙ্গির পরিবর্তন ঘটিয়ে ক্যালকুলাস ভিত্তিক চর্চার পথ খুলে দেয়, এবং এর ফলে অনেক নতুন সমস্যা সমাধানের দুয়ার খুলে যায়। পরিসংখ্যানে সম্ভাব্যতার বেইসীয় পরিভাষাও মূলত লাপ্লাসেরই অবদান।
