The PlayStation 4 (also known by the abbreviated name PS4)[6][7] is the fourth home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment and is not compatible with the PlayStation 3. It was officially announced at a press conference on February 20, 2013 and launched on November 15, 2013. The PlayStation 4 was discontinued in Japan on 5 January 2021.

Sony focused on "social" aspects as a major feature of the console. Although the PS4 has improved social functionality, the features are optional and can be disabled. Users can create or join community groups based on personal interest. Gamers can watch live gameplay of games which their friends are playing. Online friends can join a play session via streaming.[8]
