Buckinghamgo taldeetan jotzen hasi zen, eta 1972an izan zuen lehen kontratu profesionala UFOrekin. Wild Turkey, Cozy Powells Hammer eta Babe Ruth taldeekin ere jo zuen. 1976an Paice Ashton Lord bandarekin bat egin zuen Deep Purple taldeko hiru musikari ohiekin (Jon Lord, Ian Paice eta Tony Ashton).
1978an Whitesnake taldea sortu zuen David Coverdale eta Micky Moodyrekin batera. Marsdenek abestien zati handi bat idatzi zuen Coverdalerekin. Taldea utzi ondoren bakarkako ibilbidea izan zuen.
