അഡിക്ഷൻ
ജീവിതത്തെ ബാധിക്കുന്നതരം പരിണതഫലങ്ങളുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ചില നിയന്ത്രിത വസ്തുക്കൾ ഉപയോഗിന്നതു തുടരുകയോ ചില സ്വഭാവങ്ങൾ തുടർന്നും പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നതിനെയാണ് വൈദ്യാശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ അത്യാസക്തി (അഡിക്ഷൻ) എന്നുവിളിക്കുന്നത്.[3] ഇത്തരം പ്രവൃത്തികളിലേയ്ക്കുനയിക്കുന്ന അസുഖത്തെയും അഡിക്ഷൻ എന്ന് വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്.[4]

മദ്യം, മയക്കുമരുന്ന് എന്നിവയുടെ ഉപയോഗം അഡിക്ഷൻ എന്ന പ്രയോഗത്തിൽ പെടുമെങ്കിലും ഇവ മാത്രമല്ല ഈ ഗണത്തിൽ പെടുത്തപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത്. വ്യായാമം, അശ്ലീലസാഹിത്യം, ചൂതാട്ടം എന്നിവയോടുള്ള അത്യാസക്തിയും ഈ ഗണത്തിൽ പെടുത്താം. വസ്തുക്കളെയോ അതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പെരുമാറ്റത്തെയോ നിയന്ത്രിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കാതിരിക്കുക, ഇതെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള ചിന്ത മനസ്സിൽ എപ്പോഴുമുണ്ടാവുക, തിക്തഫലങ്ങൾ അനുഭവിക്കുമോഴും സ്വഭാവം മാറാതിരിക്കുക, ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു പ്രശ്നമുണ്ടെന്ന് നിഷേധിക്കുക എന്നിവയൊക്കെ അത്യാസക്തിയുടെ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളാണ്.[5] ആഗ്രഹം തോന്നിയാൽ ഉടൻ തന്നെ ലക്ഷ്യം നേടണമെന്നരീതിയിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന പതിവും ദീർഘകാല പ്രത്യാഘാതങ്ങൾ പരിഗണിക്കാതിരിക്കലും ഇതിന്റെ ലക്ഷണമാണ്.[6] ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന വസ്തു സാധാരണമാണ് എന്ന നിലയിൽ ശരീരത്തിന് പ്രവർത്തിക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്ന് അവസ്ഥയെയാണ് ഫിസിയോളജിക്കൽ ഡിപ്പൻഡൻസ് എന്നുപറയുന്നത്.[7] മയക്കുമരുന്നുകൾ ഉപയോഗിക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നവരിൽ സാധാരണ അളവ് മയക്കുമരുന്ന് കൊണ്ട് ഫലമില്ലാതെ വരുകയും കൂടുതൽ അളവ് ഉപയോഗിക്കേണ്ടി വരുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശ്നം കൂടാതെ ഉപയോഗത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വിട്ടുനിൽക്കേണ്ടി വരുകയാണെങ്കിൽ വിത്ഡ്രോവൽ ലക്ഷണങ്ങളുമുണ്ടാകും.
